Heh, i know everbody usually asks about bigger monitors but i am looking for a small monitor and have my eye on Sony's CPD 100 ES, Iiyama's S500M1, LG's Studioworks 57M 15"" M/M, and Mitsubishi's Diamond Scan 50/50M.

I used to have a Sony G400 PST but after seeing the Iiyama Vision master 410's superior colours and picture quality i was sold and got rid of the Sony. Is the Iiyama S500M1 up to the same standard? Is the Sony CPD 100 ES a lot better than the old G400 PST?

Would be grateful guys, if you could help me in choosing the ultimate 15" monitor  - LOL :D

Do your worst guys,

rockhard =)

P.S. Some recommendations between the laughing be nice ;)

Why would you want to get a 15"? Other than the fact that a 17" is 100 dollars more... :)

thanx guys :)

I got kinda bitten with my last Sony as it was one of the older models that was only flat vertically :(

Its for my home server im building at the moment and wont be used for gaming, just occasional browsing, outlook, admin. Id rather have a top quality 15"er than a cheapo 17"er :) I hate looking at my m8's cheap monitors, makes me kinda glad ive got my iiyama.

I'll take a look at that KDS as its got a Sony tube, also CTX do one too so i'll go see if i can find some head to head reviews with them in to help me decide :)

If anyone can offer me some hands-on experience of their 15"er :p be much appreciated :D

Do what I did.
I have one "real" computer in my room (w/ monitor, keyboard, and mouse); and a second chassis only.
I use PCAnywhere to logon to my second computer and work it.
And if I ever need to I can always add a monitor in case for some reason it didn't boot sucessfully.

I use it to get on Napster from my secured computer, download songs on the server to a mapped network drive residing on my PC...its a nice setup...

Generally when I have to reboot, I shut it down and typically within 3 minutes, the server pops up on PCAnywhere.

There are some more details in my rig info below.

It works better than a KVM switch because I can work on the server from one PCAnywhere window while doing tasks on my main computer.

Looks like the Sony's goin to take the award :)

Elemental007 - Have u tried Win2k's "Terminal Services"?
I have read a lot on other forums about people using this to do the same job? Is there any advantage in using PCAnywhere over Terminal Services?

Hah!!!

Just kidding, couldn't resist though.

I used to have a 15" monitor and not only was it a 15" it was a generic sh!tty 15".

OKAY I AM GOING TO BE SERIOUS NOW AND HERE IS MY SUGGESTION:

However, I would try to go for a 17", they are very reasonably priced; that is my only real recommendation. Do you want to go blind??? I swear I think I lost half my vision looking at my 15" and I am only 21. I suggest you go for a Samsung 700IFT. I see it on www.pricewatch.com for $250. It is a perfectly flat monitor. So, if didn't want that much go for a non-flat, which will be cheaper. I have always considered Samsung to be a great performance per price monitor.

Don't forget another option is to use one monitor and an A/B switch connected to both computers. I drive a Win2K computer and a WinME computer using the same monitor. Works out fine for me. An A/B switch and extra cable should only cost about $25-35 max.

A crappy KVM is $25.

Unfortunately any KVM switch for $25 (KVM - Keyboard, Video, Mouse) sucks. The reason? USB is the only port that can be hot-swapped. When you hot-swap from a manual KVM, you are physically severing the connections from the PS/2 ports, and this can cause the fuses to blow on them. Only USB ports are hot swappable and an unpowered KVM switch does the same thing as hot-swapping ports.

Plus, the monitor sometimes look less clear when run through an unpowered KVM switch, and some keyboards cannot maintain a signal.

A true, powered, good, 2 port KVM switch runs $75.

For your intended uses, consider scrounging an old monitor from another system. No kidding. I bought a 486 computer a year and a half ago that had 2 32 meg edo simms, 6.4 gig hard drive and and a Samsung 15" monitor for $3 at an auction. Its not the best monitor to look at but for the cost and the fact that it is only turned on once or twice a week makes up for it. Sometimes goign really cheap is the way to go. The other suggestion might be to upgrade your main workstation's monitor and move that one to the server.
But to ask, I'm kind of partial to the samsung monitors.

fraid with it being in my bedroom cant do with having a scruffy old monitor about :(

gotta keep up appearences :D

Im goin to see if i can get a look at the Sony and the iiyama close up and see whether the sonys worth paying nearly 1/3 more? hmmm?

I do like my iiyama 410 a lot, so tempted just to play safe and stick with them.

Some opinions from a 15" iiyama owner sure would be appreciated :)

thanx guys,

rockhard =)
