Hi.

I just got a RIO 300 from a friend and it has 32mb built in memory. The player works fine with the songs that were already on there when I got it. But when I plug it into the computer to put more songs on it the computer will not recognize it.

I installed the RIO manager software, and when I ask it to check memory it says there is no device found connected. I checked all my cables and they are secure. It asked me if I want to install the device myself but it would not let me pick a parrellel port.

I think it might be the cable or the port coming in on the MP3 player.

Is there any way I could do anymore tests other then getting a new cable to test if that is the problem.

Please Help

Check if maybe the parallel port are enabled in BIOS it might have been disabled somehow. Maybe?

If parrallel port was disabled I would not be able to use my printer right?

Because I could use my printer fine.

I now know it is not the cable, I set it up on my laptop and it recognizes the memory fine. Now I am really stumped.

It must be my computer.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the software and same problem it does not recognize the mp3 player.

I will check by BIOS to see if parrallel port is disabled anyway.

Any more suggestions.

Check the power level in the player. I have found that if the power is too low in the player the software has a hard time recognizing the hardware.

It is quite possible that your printer driver is "polling" the parallel port and interfering with the rio software. Try disabling the printer driver (you may need to use msconfig, because sometimes printers start multiple programs)

There are other ways to find out, without having to buy another cable, but they are considerably more expensive ;)
