Having an awesome time playing FTL. To those who have not heard of this game or checked it out, it's only $9 and is a ton of fun to play on pretty much any computer built in the last 7 years. 🙂

Not a plug, but just trying to get the word out on a GREAT space simulation game. A little resource management, a little combat, and a lot of decision-making and ship building. Loads of fun!

Was looking at this since it was on sale. Can you give a bit more detail on how this plays? The screenshots and videos don't do it much justice.

It's probably easiest to explain to someone who enjoys modern strategy board games. The main premise is that you manage your crew functions, ship systems, and battle via the ship layout. You get to choose where you travel to (essentially your enemy is breathing down your neck, so you don't get to explore everywhere in each sector) and the goal is to travel from sector to sector until you reach the end of the game.

As you travel, it has old-school 386-esque RPG elements. You encounter ships, peoples, stores, and bases that you can choose to interact with, attack, or search for resources.

When in battle, you have to control the attacking and defending, put out fires, and manage the life-support of your ship.

I guess after writing this, the best way to explain it would be a modern, RPG-like, Oregon Trail in space. 🙂
