I am currently pricing out a system for a friend of mine. It will be used mainly for gaming and surfing the net. I'm an AMD man first and foremost, however, they insist on Intel. Problem is I haven't built an Intsmell system for years and I am having trouble w/ all of the chipset options. How does this look?

MSI 645E MAX-C (6547E-010) Mobo
Intel P4 2.26Ghz Northwood 512k Socket 478 Processor 533mhz
512mb Samsung Original DDR333 PC2700 Cas 2.5
Maxtor 60Gb 7200rpm (quiet drive)
Gainward/Cardexpert GeForce 4 Ti4200, 3.5ns, 64mb DDR
Sound, CD-RW, DVD, Modem, Case

Thanks in advance.

Hmmmm, can't see any hardware conflict with that fine setup... try resetting the CMOS jumper and then enable each setting one by one, to find the trouble... unless you're creating these 'problems' so your friend will get a XP 2100+ ;)

Thanks. But I think you misunderstood what I was saying. Allow me to reiterate...
The system has not been built yet, I was just asking for advice to see if I had made the right hardware choices.

Yeah, those choices look good. I just ordered that CPU plus
an Abit BG7 today, but the i845G is definitely bleeding edge right now.

If it's me, I'd do Cas2 instead of Cas2.5. They have the XMS Corsair stuff at http://www.googlegear.com/

Soundblaster Live Value, or Hercules Game Theater, or
Turtle Beach Santa Cruz.

And of course, the obligatory comment: i850E chipsets and 1066 RAMBUS are the performance leaders right now. But I have no love lost on RAMBUS, so I like the cut of your jib... :)

I just happen to choose the SIS. That's why I was asking to check out the setup and see what they would change.
