Hello all.

I'm building a new machine and will be ordering the bulk of the components on Sunday (when C2D prices drop supposedly). I wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions/changes they thought I should make before I place the order. I've already purchased the RAM and Monitor and the 8800 GTS is on order(not to late to cancel if necessary).

Primary Goals:
I'm going for longevity. I want a machine that will still be viable in 3-5 years. I'm a gamer but not nearly as much as I used to be since I am a new parent :). I will mainly be using the machine for Music, Pics, Video,Software Development and occasional gaming. I also plan to overclock moderately. I'll be content getting it to 3.2 - 3.5 Ghz.

Ordering:
GIGABYTE 3D AURORA GZ-FSCA1-ANB Black Aluminum ATX Full Tower Computer Case - Retail

ASUS P5B Deluxe/WiFi-AP LGA 775 Intel P965 Express ATX Intel Motherboard - Retail

SeaSonic S12 Energy Plus SS-650HT ATX12V / EPS12V 650W Power Supply - Retail
I'm a little concerned about this, I've read good reviews on this brand but Will this be enough juice for this system?

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 Conroe 2.4GHz LGA 775 Processor Model BX80557E6600 - Retail

Rosewill RCR-FD200 All-in-one USB 2.0 Black 3.5" Card Reader with 1.44MB Floppy Drive - Retail

SAMSUNG SpinPoint T Series HD501LJ 500GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
X2 or X3, either going RAID 1 OR RAID 5, leaning toward RAID 1

LITE-ON 20X DVD±R DVD Burner With 12X DVD-RAM Write Black SATA Model LH-20A1S - Retail

COOLER MASTER RR-PCH-S9U1-GP 92mm CPU Cooler - Retail

MASSCOOL G751 Shin-Etsu Thermal Interface Material - Retail

Have:
Patriot eXtreme Performance 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
X2 4Gig Total, I know 32bit Vista wont address all of it, I may go 64bit later when drivers become less of an issue

Dell UltraSharp 2407WFP

Already Ordered:
PNY XLR8 GeForce 8800GTS 320MB
Got it for ~ $225 after MIR. Saw the deal, had to go ahead and jump on it, was previously planning to get a x1950xt 256mb. Can still cancel order if I needed to for some reason.

Thanks in advance for responses.

If you can still cancel that video card order on the 22nd, then you're good to go with that. I believe the NDA for AMD/ATI's next round of cards is lifted on the 22nd so you'll be able to see what they're
going to be offering up very soon.

I've always been a fan of Seagate HDDs myself, they've never failed me. I don't see a lot of people goin with the Sammy's, but I really don't know if their quality is vastly different.

Power supply -- same as gusty

Not sure how that cooler master is for OCing since I'm not an OCer myself, so I'm sure some folks here that know more than me can advise u on that.

I would go with a Tuniq Tower 120 or a Thermalright ultra 120 for the processor cooler, I think the PSU is fine, you could get by with something in the 500W range or less but the Seasonic will work great.

your little system there has nothing on that power supply. it would power two of your rigs put together.

dont get sucked into the big number watts game like a lot of people do.

and maybe change the CPU cooler.

you may want to stick with the 650 for long term as it is likely to be more future proof for forward looking video card upgrades and/or sli. depends on the price difference and other factors only you know. but the 500 will do you fine for that rig IMO.
