Just gave it a redesign and I could used some suggestions/criticism/comments on the layout. Right now it's just the basic shell but I plan adding content in a bit. The first link is the original layout and design of the site and the second link is the new design. All suggestions are welcome. Also, what would be a good way to attract people to my site?

Java should only be used on webpages when there is something on the page that actually requires java. You do NOT need java to display a quote.

I like it. The colour scheme is okay makes me feel tranquil and warm inside. But I can see why some may not like it. BUT if it fits the content then use it. I agree about the java, fluff if you can do the same without.

I'm going back to get the warm fuzzy feeling again.

Seconded. Times New Roman just looks ugly, IMHO. I'd go with Arial or MS Sans Serif or any of the other decent fonts that will be supported across the board. Other than that, site is looking pretty good. :D

Your color scheme is fine, actually damn near perfect. However you have no graphics. Need to brush up on photoshop or other image illustration programs. That's what Aharami likely meant to see if you can jazz it up more.

Thanks for all the advice. I changed the menu font and I plan on adding graphics as soon as I can come up with something to put in. I want to add something to the header bar at the top but I'm not sure what I should put there, any ideas?

That's moderately better, but yeah it lacks any cool graphics or stuff that really grabs you.

When It comes to graphics that are not logo's, you can really let yourself go on the creative side. When I open up Photo Shop I see a canvas and I make it up from there. In your case start with a good size canvas, then make good use of the cropping tool .

Tons nicer! Also, really try not to use java, it is the devil :)

To get more visitors.... make your site about 1 thing, not a ton of different, unrelated things. Also get listed on google, dmoz, yahoo, msn, all that good stuff. Posting links on message boards asking for comments is also a good way ;)

Thanks for the suggestions. I plan on removing the java and I'll be putting some graphics on the header bar. I've already submitted it to a bunch of search engines a while back, that's where most of my visitors come from.

don't use times new roman as ANY font. For one, it's over done because any paper typed up by a student is in TNR, secondly, it's hard to read on a computer screen. In fact, any serif font is. When you got the little caps and stuff on the ends, and factor in anti-alaising, the letters get more blurry... blah blah blah I'm a design geek... Use on sans-serif fonts like arial, verdana, tahoma and MS Sans-Serif.
