I've finally done some work on my website was driven to start writing about cool stuff I've done with computers. Not all of it is very complicated, but it's not something you see done by everyone so I hope some of you can give me some advice on how write tech orientated articles and some criticisim about my website layout/design. I'm more of a programmer than a web-designer, and I am emabarassed to say how much time has actually gone into making the existing layout :)

Anyways, here's the article, and some links that sort of show the layout history of the site.

Article
Article with no CSS
Article with an old stylesheet
Don't ask...

Thanks in advance :)

Mucman! I can't really say anything constructive, just passing through to say hi.

But the page does look nice :)

There are a few spelling and grammer errors but overall, a good job.

Tangerine!, how are you doing! Haven't seen you on here in a long time! I'm glad you like the layout of my site :)

Monel, I said don't ask :). I believe Notfred likened that design to a cyan phone :p

oldsmoboat, thanks... what about the level of detail though? Is it over simplified?

I can't comment on that. I have no idea what you were writing about.

Looks good, you might add a "for dummies" paragraph on how to copy files from a PC to the BSD box.

Also, for people who care about music quality ;) perhaps a link to flac.sourceforge.net since it's supposed to be possible to use FLAC files with the Audiotron.

Hmm, the article seems mostly fine, there's a couple of typos and things. The one big problem I see with it is that you don't explain what you're doing until the end. You start off talking about some Audiotron thing that I've never heard of and give a very vague description of what it does, then go immediately into building a PC to emulate it, when I don't even really know what it does. Finally, at the very end of the article you say:

The end result that I want is an audio system that is independent of whatever desktop I am running. If I want to boot into BeOS, then back into FreeBSD, I can do so without having to stop my music!

And then I finally went "oh, that's what we're trying to do!"

And that old design did look like a phone, this one looks much nicer :)

RossMan, CMS???

DaveSimmons, hmm that's not really in the scope of the article though. What kind of files would you need to transfer over to BSD for this project? I was able to do everything over an ssh connection to the machine.

slycat, please elaborate! I want to get as much feedback before I start writing other articles. I want to learn from my initial mistakes.

Notfred, those are some good points... in fact, the paragraph you quoted was originally in my intro :). Perhaps a link to the Audiotron website would have helped as well.
Everytime I look at my cyan phone design I cringe :p

thanks for the feedback everyone! My Dell 600m just came in though, so I am going to make a big pot of coffee and have myself one hell of a Friday night :D
