Looks awesome besides the 7800GTX - why didn't you opt for the 7900GT? It has similar performance, and it's about $300 at newegg. I don't know how much you're spending on the 7800 but it's worth a look. I haven't heard of anybody buying the 7800 in a couple of months.

But yeah, sweet build. Have fun.

Huh?

7900GT > 7800 GTX

Just as fast stock yet runs cooler, uses less power, and OC's much better. Plus it's cheaper.

Word. That's what I meant to say.

If you're building this for games then drop the Power supply to a 500W at most, hell with that you could use a 430W seasonic, get value RAM, get a single slot motherboard and see if that's not enough to put you into the budget for a X1900XT. Slower RAM would be nothing at all compared to the improvement in graphics and the other changes aren't going to hit performance.

1) Motherboard = single x16 slot (i'm assuming that it's the SLI one, can never remember)
2) RAM = stick with it, but if you need to go for value RAM here to get a better GPU then this is the place to save money.
3) PSU = Utter waste of money, your system does not need a 600W PSU, the 500W would be enough to run 7900GTs in SLI.

Edit:*Danger will robinson Danger!* The S12 PSU and DFI motherboard are known to have compatability issues, i'd think about going for a different PSU brand like the enermax liberty 500W. (you're not a low noise freak with an active cooling chipset).

4) Plextor = Rebadged BenQ burners with $20 stuck on the pricetag.

I think the Seasonic S-12 600W is a nice touch with that LL case. If price is no object, you can do better, but nevertheless that rig is very nice.

nice system the only thing i'd change is the 7800gtx to an x1900xt for better image quality and performance with HDR, AA and AF

Correct...get this BenQ instead :

I can vouche for the BenQ. I have 2 of them! Great burners. No problems here with Ritek CD-Rs.

THe 7800GTX to a 7900 GT is a no-brainer.
The single core gpu is a bad idea. It will help relive PC stress to have dual core. YOU can burn a CD and be on these forums, as well as listening to music without your PC chugging.

I'd get a X2 3800+ an d OC it. Or an Opteron 165 if you know what you're doing...

I also think that your Case is a little expensive... why not have a look @ something a little cheaper like the Gigabyte Aurora or the ANtec P-180 case? They give good performance and IMO good looks for a good price.

The DFI Ultra-D is pretty much legendary and I own one. No problems there.

THe important thing to remember is that you should take your time and read, read, read before you take the plunge.

Hope this is of help to you.

Oh, and don't forget to get some Arctic SIlver 5 (wipe off the default stuff) thermal paste.

BTW, where are you buying from?

Seconded!

Or if you cant afford a x1900, a x1800 would be another option. Should be around the same price range as the 7900GT

--------------------------------

How about getting the 7900GT - although the x1900xt offers better single card performance at the moment, you will have the opportunity to upgrade to Sli later - 2x7900GT will usually beat out any crossfire combination - and for the moment, a single 7900GT will serve you well - it all depends on your desire to upgrade - I opted for the single 7800GT card for the moment, in the mindset that 2x7800GT (OC) will get me that huge jump later for less than the cost of a high-end single card solution.

However, if you aren't looking to go Sli (I'm assuming that DFI board is SLi only?) then I would recommend scrimping a bit on the PSU and MB and perhaps even the RAM - you only need to spend loads on these if u plan to overclock ur components - although with the 148 u should really be looking to soup that b*stard up a bit - i which case, spend all you can now to get the stable overclock you're looking for, and look into Sli for easier future upgrades

I also agree - go for the opteron 165 if you can - I am running 2.6Ghz with four sticks of (relatively) crappy ram - should be just as easy to OC as the 148 and will give considerable mutli-tasking benefits.

Also - if the MB u chose isn't Sli compatable, spend the extra few bucks for an Sli one so you at least have the option

I still say you go for the X1900 or X1800.

For the price of 2 7900GT's, you could easily buy a X1900XT/XTX, which will draw less power, leave more slots open, cost you less, and wont give up to much performance. In fact, in some instances a single X1900 or X1800 series will beat out 7900GT in SLI.

Go ahead and go for the 7900GT if you want, but I would not recommend SLI.
