Please confirm for me that this XP1700 Tbred B is unlocked.

Pic.
I don't see any signs that the L1's were cut by laser; do they still need to be connected on the surface though?

Edit: Yes, it seems that it is unlocked.

No way you can put it in and find out? What motherboard do you have?

I would think they would need to be connected on the top to be unlocked. I hear Nforce2 boards can unlock a cpu even if its lasercut.

NForce2 and KT400 MoBos (the ones with FID feature) will give you multiplier choices without you physically messing with bridges on CPU.

You probably would have to put it in and try changing the multiplyer in BIOS to see if it was unlocked.

Well see, I can put it in; I just wanted to know first, as I've got an Alpha 8045 - removal and replacement of it isn't a quick task.
It's going into a Shuttle AK35GTR (KT266A chipset).
So Tbreds need to have the L1's connected, just like the Palominos?

I would dare say it is unlocked as I see no laser cuts between the exposed contacts... If you look on either side of the "L12" you notice pits (darkened area`s) that indicate a cut in the contact... The pic is somewhat fuzzy but its still noticable... ;)

My vote is factory unlocked...

hwat tbred is that?

i am almost certain that 1700+ tbreds have mults 12.5x and lower unlocked, whereas higher tbreds have mults of 13x and higher unlocked

some nforce2/kt400 boards can let you choose from the complete array of mults, but the others just let you choose b/w the unlocked "sets"

Edited the title to reflect CPU type; Pilsnerpete directed me to this thread; says there

Do they unlock the Tbred?? Yes and no, it really depends on the BIOS and NOT THE CHIP. The L1 bridges on ALL the Tbred CPUs are not cut and it allows for multiplier adjustment. That incldues the Tbred B and A.
So I guess it's unlocked then - do hope so, cause I don't want to have to fuss with the 8045 more than I need to. It's a good performer though.

Ok, it seems to be unlocked; set the multiplier to 12x, and it booted at 1900 no problem. Answers that I guess.:)
