PLEASE compare hd performance

I have a WD raptor(the only hd) on my abit IS7 with 2.4c. I suspect my hd is running not as fast as it should. I'm getting around 28000 Kb/s in sandra and around 1300 in pcmark2003. Is my mobo not using the SATA correctly? Are these scores average? Would like to compare with other users. (currently I dont think there is a intel app accelerator for thie chipset, is this true?)Thanks

A) This is off topic...ie non computer related
B) In Sandra, check the numbers for buffered read, sequential read, buffered write, sequential write along with the big bar that says 28000Kb/s up top.
C) Not sure about WD but on new Maxtors, the first read/write session for every part of the drive is slower, said one review, so the drive can make sure data integrity looks good.
D) I benched my Maxtor DM9+ yesterday, and I think the bar at the top said something around 37,000KB/s overall.

Maxtor DM9+ results
Drive index: 38,951kB/s
Buffered read: 71MB/s
Sequential read: 57MB/s
Random read: 9MB/s
Buffered Write: 71MB/s
Sequential Write: 55MB/s
Random write: 19MB/s
Average access time: 6ms (estimated)

This is the DM9+ 160GB, and do note that I am running Sandra 2003.7.9.73 (newest release).

I redid my sandra and here is the result, I cant believe!

Drive index: 31044kB/s
Buffered read: 96MB/s
Sequential read: 43MB/s
Random read: 9MB/s
Buffered Write: 67MB/s
Sequential Write: 46MB/s
Random write: 15MB/s
Average access time: 6ms (estimated)

This is basically _worst_ than your benchmark, and I'm not sure about your model of hd, but is it a 10krpm drive? Is this seriously wrong? Could anyone help? Please, thanks.

What do I need to backup? I never understand people and their backup crap. I have NOTHING of importance on my computer. My computer is a gaming machine, that's it. It has and operating system, drivers, and games on it. I have all of those "backed up" on the CDs that they came on.

I have absolutely no need to backup my HD. I think most people don't. I mean, unless you don't think you can remember how to get back to anandtech without a bookmark...

Hmm, savegames for games I haven't finished yet, Word documents and excel sheets, source code, and a pile of game patch downloads are about it on my desktop since I don't have any P2P content. (I prefer to have backups of the patches since you never know when a publisher will drop the patches from their website.)

But my music server has about 800 of my CDs that I've ripped and enocded, I'd hate to have to do that over again.
