Both used cars...

2000 Lexus GS300 250K miles in great condition...minor issues no engine and tranny problems

2004 Nissan Exterra 114K miles.....not much to say here either but same condition?

which car?!?!? Miles are high on the Lexus but its a LEXUS!

Also the Lexus is near the end of its life. When you approach 300K miles you're looking at an engine rebuild (or replacement), so the Nissan would be the choice.

Odd choices since they're not even remotely similar.

neither... higher mileage than I like on a gas vehicle. If you wanna go diesel thats another story

At 250K, that's EOL for most of the parts. If you can find a Lexus for around 100k or less, then maybe it's worth it. Just between the two, the Xterra.

I am in the market for an SUV. Dealer wont give me aything for my GS300 so i put it on CL. This guy very close to me offers me a 2004 Nissan Exterra + $1000 for my GS300. My whole deal was to trade the car get the 1k and trade in the nissan hoping they would give me a good trade in deal to get another Lexus. I want a Lexus RX330

How handy are you at finding car problems? If a guy is offering you a car that's almost twice as new plus cash... something's funny.

Also if your GS300 was always owned by you, you might as well take care of it and drive it to the ground.

One of my wife's best friends owns a 2002 Lexus ES330 with over 350,000 miles on the original engine.

If it were me? The Nissan. And I'll comment anyway - I say the Nissan because it has half the miles & is 4 years newer.

However, if you're in love with the Lexus, buy the Lexus. I'm driving a 1999 Ford coupe with 150k miles on it right now after leasing new cars for nearly 10 years because I wanted a crappy project car to screw around with. It breaks a lot, it's not very cool, it lacks nearly all modern conveniences outside of a mediocre A/C system, but it fits the bill for my current needs & wants. If you think a Lexus is cool, then go for it! If your primary interest is in having a more reliable car, then the Nissan is a lot newer & has less upcoming maintenance headaches based on mileage. Either way, you'll be paying for one, so get the one you want!

Well, that's the other thing - Lexus is a Toyota brand, so you're getting Toyota quality (in theory). Versus Nissan. And with the Nissan you're looking at a 9-year-old car and the Lexus a 13-year-old car, so depends on how you view Nissan's long-term quality vs. Lexus/Toyota's.

I'm sure there were some repairs done along the way too. With that mileage you would have needed a water pump and thermostat, at least two valve cover gasket changes, at least one new belt, new exhaust, and if used a timing chain- and that's minimum.

sounds like you win (as long as the xterra runs) The dealer will give you something for the car, as long as it's running, and you get exactly what you want.

I don't get it...

You're not wanting to keep the Exterra, just use it as a trade-in on an RX330? It sounds like for YOUR purposes the GS300 has zero value but the Exterra has positive value. And you're not wanting to keep it so who cares?

The only question should be whether the Exterra + $1000 is worth more on trade-in to the dealer than what you can get for the GS300 private party.

No it's on topic. It's just deviated from the Choice A Choice B selection you wanted (which I have to ask why not make a poll if you wanted no other input than that). By making users answer in a post on a public forum like this you are inviting more comments.

Also
Exterra. It's stupid to rely on a car with 250k miles for anything more than the occasional grociery getter. The my moms, cousin's, friends, grandmother got her *random car* to 500,000k means nothing. No car, no matter the manufacturer, designs a normal consumer car for that kind of use. It could be tomorrow or it could be a year from now, but that Lexus is quickly headed for expensive work.

Nobody's off topic, you weren't honest in your OP. You made it seem like you were going to buy one of the two cars above, however it seems more like you already have the GS and you just want the XTerra for trade in value for another car.

Why even bother asking if you already know what you're trying to do?

Honest? all i did was ask for you to pick a car. It doesnt matter if i own the car or not. Please stop trying to be so smart in these forums and answer the god damn question.

Jesus all these people trying to add their 2 cents in things. STFU and pick 1!

this is the end of the topic, im done. I hate people like Eureka

BTW read the TOPIC and please follow directions, again if you cant STFU

i'm not trying to be mean or anything=)
