After some sensible people here talked some sense into me this is what I've come up with now.
The system will be used for video/encoding/DVD burning so I need the onboard firewire and extra CPU cache.
I do plan on experimenting with mild OCing but it is not a priority.

I'm still not sure of the memory. Will this work with the MB and OC?

No gaming to speak of so I could probably get by with a lesser video board.
I like the case for its top I/O port and no doors but am still looking.
I like Seagate drives and their warranty.
I may dump the media reader because I think it needs two USB ports.

Is this supply overkill?

What do you think about the rest?

Thanks for the memory link. The irony is I knew about it but forgot about it.
(may have to get some new memory for me too. haha)

That supply looks good. I need to check on the amount of connectors
it has.

Thanks for your input.

I'm running the P5B-E with that G-Skill memory you posted. It's been running 401 FSB for three weeks and is 24 hrs Orthos blend stable and 12 hours memtest86 stable (stopped the test at 12 hours - no errors). I run this memory at 1.9V. There's no reason to pay more money for RAM especially when mildly overclocking it. My e6300 is at 2.8GHz and the memory is 1:1.

well just set my friend up with e6400/corsair value ram (667)/evga 7600gt/p180b/
1 sata seagate 250gig /3 old hdd's and 2 burners/ silversonic strider 560 w power supply.
asus p5b-e (still not sure what revision)

scores 3200 on 3dmark06 (ranked 18th on similiar systems --225k overall :). Which is not too bad ..as everything is at stock speed.

but i am seeing a hardware controller error ( a billion stimes)..

and the graphics card fan (or maybe 1 of the case fans...set on low ) puts out a high squeaky warbling sound (not very loud but is still very annoying because of the tone.)

Why not the Seasonic? Aren't the Corsair PSUs made by Seasonic anyways? What's the difference.....just price?
