When booting up i should see the new version not the old version, right?

I tried everything but pc keeps rebooting on it's own when i shut it down over and over again after installing new bios.

I went back to old and same crap keeps happening ..

Listen, i'm fed up. either this pc is going out the window (i mean that) or i'm going to break my hand busting it up!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Will someone please provide a link for "clean install" i never done it and i want to see if that clears up my troubles or i'll do something i'll regret!

I'm afraid i'll lose my temper and break my new LCD along with the pc.

Listen, just give me the instructions on doing a clean install (too much crap on here anyway) and what should i install first.

Thanks so much
I hope you understand my frustration, i really might lose it and smash this thing to bits!

Ok, calm down.

1.Get a Start Up Disc (to crate one, go to Control Panel-->Add/Remove Programs--? Start Up tab)

2. Restart the computer with the startup disc in and got to Startup PC without CD Rom support.

3. When the prompt comes, type in A:\FORMAT x: (where x is the name of teh drive you want to format and install the new OS).

4. Let that complete, reboot with Startup disc still in.

5. Start PC WITH CDROM support. Put Windows disc in and select x:\setup.exe (where x equals the CD ROM drive, do this step at the prompt).

6. Installation should start.

P.S. Post this in the OS section next time, might get more answers, it ain't HIghly Techinical ;)

BTW, this is obivously for Windows.

Normally I wouldnt encourage this kind of stuff but I just happened to have the thing you needed so here you go... just dont do it again!

Formatting of begginers

Chapter 1 - Backing everything up
okay back everything up, take a deep breath, Go back and make sure you backed everythink up, make sure you have windows + the latest drivers + winzip on a CD/floppy and a working bootdisk, Go back 1 last time and make sure that absolutly everything is backed up (a good(and fun) way of doing this is to delete everything you do not absolutly need and backup all the rest).

Chapter 2 - destroying your computer
start in dos with the boot disk and run fdisk, enable large drive support, delete all logical partitions (option 4) and create a primary partition of around 2 gigs (or 1.7 gigs and .3 gigs -explain later), create 1 or more drives for mp3's/games etc (personally, I like all the rest of my stuff on 1 drive), assign C as the primary partition, and exit fdisk, restart, format all drives, make sure your floppy drive did not just die during a format as has happened to me (NOTE: always make sure you have a fully functioning computer with internet access close at hand)

Chapter 3 - suddenly remembering you forgot to back something up
nuff said

Chapter 4 - Installing windows + misc
put your windows (98SE) CD in and run setup, follow all prompts, reboot, delete all crap from desktop, delete all crap from program files, delete all crap from start menu, install winzip, install all drivers then all programs in order of importance (Office first etc) making sure you restart EVERY time when prompted, unbackup your stuff back onto your new hard drive, if you created a 0.3 gig partition, put your swapfile on there or just put it with windows, <optional> do a drive image.

Chapter 5 - optional stuff
These are to be done at the appropriate moment:
1. realise you forgot to back something up
2. realise that your windows/backup CD is scratched to buggery
3. realise you forgot the network card driver
4. curse at your periphrials for not working well with one another
5. realise after half an hour of "this device is not present or the drivers are not installed" that you forgot to plug the card in
6. die of terminal boredom from watching your computer restart so many times

Thanks for the replies: >

My system is back up and running, but it's still starting back up on it's own after i shut it down.

I posted on other threads/forums but no one has a answer or suggestions don't fix it.

I checked the microsoft site and emailed them ,nada!

The only way i can shut it down is thru the button on the case, will this harm my pc by shutting it down this way?

I fdsk/format and trouble still happening.
I didn't install any virus/firewall this time and still rebooting on it's own.
There's nothing on this PC but the essentials..no win dvd no cd player nothing!

System
AMD 1.2 FSB 266
Raid 0
Gig MB 7DX
Win ME

I only came back here because i can't find any help with this problem : <

Thanks so much for any suggestions.

It seems as though you are having problems after flashing your Bios....correct me if i am wrong.

What version is your motherboard?
What Bios version were you running before you flashed the chip?
What Bios version did you flash?
What utility are you using to "install" the Bios as you said you did.

If you had this problem of constant restarts before you flashed the Bios it may be due to the ACPI functions not set correctly in your Bios setup.

Let me know what the settings are OR give some details on what "everything" is.

Oh yea....don't let the geeks bother you :D They are a little picky were you post certain topics.
Maybe try Technical Support forum or General Hardware as it is obviously not a OS problem. (I could be wrong though )
