Hi everyone,

I am looking for a good company that sells fully customizable computers. I gave up on the idea to build it on my own.

I was, for instance, wondering if anyone had any experience dealing with viciousPC.com. They seem to offer pretty good prices for high end gaming systems. They also seem to be the only ones with geforce 7800 GTX 512MB left, everyone else being out of stock.

I wouldn't want to get a bad surprise though. For exemple, I cannot figure out the brand/manufacturer of their video cards. All the info they give is

VIDEO: nVidia GeForce 7800 GTX @ 550MHZ 512MB DDR3 PCI Express, DVI and TV Out

Does nVidia manufacture their own cards? Are they any good compared to BFG or eVGA cards?

Or is that "nVidia" mention just a way for them to use a namebrand for their crappy no-brand name cards?

If you have a better company to advise, please do so. I've checked several (ABS, velocity...) and they all seem ok. Just never heard of them before. And they don't offer the 7800 GTX in 512MB version...

Does nVidia manufacture thier own cards? Yes, but only reference design (ask rollo hehe). eVGA, BFG, and XFX are the big three. As for if that company is reputable or not --->Reputabler companyer checkerer. They got 7.5 on the ricter scale for thier sixth month rating but, that doesn't tell you everything, read the reviews and decide for yourself. cheers!

I would highly suggest Monarch instead.

These guys are good at what they do. Plus, they have great marketing. Not only do you get Half Life 2 for free, but also a yellow bracelet thing that people love to wear to pretend they care, a ?? box, and get this, MAXIM magazine! Seriously, their marketing department is genius.

Why give up on building your own I literally knew nothing about doing it and I found it to be super easy after reading up and asking question on here.

I wish I could order from Monarch. With Newegg and zipzoomfly it's is one of my favorite reseller. Unfortunately they don't offer the 7800 GTX 512MB. Only ViciousPC seems to have some left.

If I could wait I would. I don't even need the computer right away. But as it is I have to buy it now, or the money will be spent on something else (not as useful and not for me!). It's a race for power against the clock! I could make a movie out of it, no kidding.

ViciousPC has been quite responsive by email. They responded twice in less than 24 hours. Their video cards are XFX, which I think is part of the 3 best brands. I prefer evga or BFG for the lifetime guarantees but... well. Also viciousPC offers a 10% discount on computers bought online. If I go with them, I will try to post again to share the experience.

XFX now has a "Double Lifetime Warranty" that rolls over to anyone you sell the card to.

I purchased my first pre-built system from pugetsystems.com. Their Resellerratings reviews are excellent, and I was very pleased with the whole experience. They are more expensive than some other custom builders, but I feel that is compensated by their impeccable customer service and build quality. If I had to do it again, I would probably build my own, but at the time I did not have the means to do so; they would still be my first choice for pre-built.

They have the BGF GTX 512mb listed as an option, so I assume they have them in stock.

OMG they're prices are high! I hope their service is the best in the field because for some stuff, they're almost charging double the price that you can get it for yourself!

Yeah, their prices are quite high- I estimate that the cost for a $1000 system (if hand-built) would run $350-400 more if one had Puget build them; for mid-range, the labor charge is not too bad. As one ventures up into the higher-end, the added costs do become scary; however, I assume that customers who are looking into a $3500+ system would not be turned off by another extra few hundred $$$. Then again, they really do have the best customer service and QC that I have ever come across.

I suspect that most members/readers of this forum would cringe at paying such a premium, but for those who do not want a mass-market PC (or know what hardware they want but do not wish to roll their own for whatever reason), they are a solid choice. At least one can be assured of a fully-operational, supported, and neatly assembled PC that arrives in pristine condition.

That's for the 512MB, the one I'm interested in. It's weird that they have different warranties for different products though.

Still, thanks for the input. I'm going to go for it on ViciousPC. They have been nice enough on the phone and quick enough by email. I will try to remember and keep posting about the experience. Their prices are very good, so if the service and build quality is good, I guess that might interest some of you.
