Alrighty, I won't be doing this for another month, but I just wanted to start early on the in-depth research. Here's what I'm looking at so far.
-Either the Addtronics 6896a, Antec SX830, Antec SX1030
-Either the Asus A7V or Abit KT7 (both Socket A)
-TBird Athlon (haven't decided on clock speed yet)
-GeForce2 GTS card (haven't decided on which one)
-Sound Blaster Live! Platinum
-PC133 128mb SDRAM
-40x SCSI Plextor CDROM Drive
-Either a 12x or 8x SCSI CDRW Drive (hopefully Plextor)
-DVDROM Drive (hopefully SCSI and definitely REGION FREE)
-not to mention the speakers and monitor....I really would like to get the Cambridge 5 piece set and a Samsung flat screen 19inch if it isn't too costly
Considering that the motherboards really aren't available to buy yet, I don't think there would be much accurate response for the boards. The only question I guess I have regarding the mobos is whether dipswitches on the ASUS are a pain in the ass cuz I've only worked with the BIOS multiplier which seems to be much more easier than flipping switches.
Another question I have is regarding the vid card. If I researched correctly, there aren't many Geforce2 Cards out there yet to do the comparison. Is it worth getting a 64mb version over the 32mb version? Right now, I am interested in the ASUS Deluxe model which would probably come with some kind of TV in/out on the board.
The last real question I have is about the DVD drive. If there is any way possible, I really want to get a hold of a drive that doesn't have Region locks within the firmware. I am assuming that there are plenty of software that support playback for any region out there. Any advice on where to find any?
