Please advise for partly new build

[FONT=&quot]I have built numerous computers "from scratch"[/FONT][FONT=&quot], [/FONT][FONT=&quot]but never re-built a computer using existing parts[FONT=&quot]. I think mobo is fried :'(, so I will be replacing the existing mobo[FONT=&quot] and chip with a Haswell[FONT=&quot] system. Also will be replacing vid card with GTX 970. What is the best way to go about this???[/FONT][/FONT][/FONT]

So you think the board is bad, and you're going to replace the board/cpu and not the memory? Based on what you have, if you replace board and CPU, I wouldn't waste any money on any move but to Skylake, and with that you should go with DDR4.

With as current as you chip appears to be, I'd simply look for a replacement board and see if you can get everything else to work. If not, then you'd want to consider a full out replace all type of move. And if you intend to upgrade anyway, you could use your old parts in something else, or at least test/validate that the CPU is good so you can offload it via friend/ebay/forums/etc.
