Playstation2 DVD playback question

My nephew got a PS2 for Christmas and the family is having trouble playing DVD's. From what I can gather, there is a security password involved. Apparently they can't RTFM, because they lost it. I haven't been able to find one online so this is the next best source - :)

Is there such a password? Is it a default, or did someone enter it? How do they reset it?

Thanks

Yeah I had this problem too, many people do, you have to take the password off, it's in the manuel somewhere, it might be 1234 or something like that.

i recommend getting a cheap dvd player anyway as using the ps2 as one just puts more wear on it. It also seems to have problems with skipping and freezing anyway (my friend's did), if you use it a lot.

c'mon man, I just wanna watch "Stuart Little" in my own room! :D

Thanks for all the reply's, I actually registered on a gamers forum to try and find an answer - or at least a f***ing manual online. I'd be better off buying an Apex than spending anymore time on this at work.
