Playstation Home, so much fun screwing with the kiddies

I swear this thing is like a social experiment of sorts.

My wife created a character that looked like her as much as possible and we decided to play a bit as her and holy hell was it funny to see all these little 14 year old kids throwing themselves at her character.

They run up to her and request to be added as a friend without even saying anything.

We'd go find some place outside that was totally empty of anyone and just sit down and within a matter of 1 min there'd be a flock of guys all surrounding her character.

It was so freaking laughable.

It's a game people! This isn't a real person!

Is anyone else having fun screwing around with people?

By the time we stopped playing her character we had literally 11 unsolicited friend request.

I know some people who made female characters in RPG's for the purposes of getting extra attention and free stuff because of what guys do around female avatars.

Along the same line, my sister (infrequently) plays WoW and people buy her stuff all the time. One person even bought her mount for her 😱. To my knowledge, she isn't flirty or acting outgoing with said people... although she can be rather social.

And hence why I rarely go online with a console game.

Hell, this trick is as old as the internet and not limited to console gaming. I did the same thing a couple of times on AOL when it first came out just to mess with people. It was done in Ultima Online and in Everquest and is done in all the current MMOs, Second Life, etc.

It's kind of sad really that the large percentage of people on there behave this way.

It's like they can't separate the virtual from reality.

Playing pool on the other hand with a total stranger was actually kind of fun 😛

How do you know they were 14?

Most of them claim to be that old.

The number 1 and 2 questions everyone ask everyone else when the meet is "where are you from" and "how old are you".

When there would be a flock of guys surrounding us every time a new one would show up they'd ask those questions and sure enough everyone else that was already there would respond.

LOL, that reminds me of an episode of How I Met Your Mother where one of the guys meets his girlfriend in WoW. Of course the dude is playing a scantily-clad female and the woman is playing as some big warrior with shoulder pads the size of small elephants.

Need pics of the wife.

My Halo 3 armor is all pink. Some people assume I'm a girl. Everyone else is gray or white or brown or green... I wanted to be different. 😛

How do you know that the people acting as if they were hitting on the character were not in fact screwing with you to make you think such of people?

Any "social" game is like this (people messing with people and acting like idiots). Step into 2nd life on your PC.

Even older: BBS board games. Limited live interaction, but same basic premise. Legend of the Red Dragon had a plug-in (Sandtiger's Bar) where the character could pay cash for stat changes, including sex changes. It also had a bug in its gambling code where a negative bank balance would wrap around to maximum bank balance....

Pink armor is an advantage when playing local versus split-screen - you can easily tell when someone is looking at you.
