I think they want everyone on at that time, but I think you can still use it past tonight.

No, I meant that typically if it's version "1.0", then that would be the initial release of the product. Doesn't make sense to designate a beta product as 1.0, but I guess they can number it however they please. 😛

well technically, you can refer to it as Home 1.0 RC1. 😛

The big thing with Home, is the client being stable. But as with the download size, that's hardly much of an issue.
The big thing is, I'd guess they are very confident that it is a stable client now, but want to stress test the servers. Also, the servers themselves are offering limited functionality, so it seems that most of the content will be server-side as to whether it's a mess or not.

Oh, and yeah, I got accepted too. However, I don't have a 360 listed in my account. 😛
Recently they have been liking me. For not getting into quite a few betas, they then gave me a Killzone 2 beta key, and yesterday got a Home key.

My take: It's definitely an interesting concept, and is a cool addition to PSN. With it staying free, I will change my comment to Home being an amazing addition to PSN. 🙂

However, it's not something I'll ever put a lot of time into. Maybe if I get that controller keypad Sony will be releasing soon, then I'll put a little more time into it, but pointlessly socializing in a virtual world seems utterly boring to me. But, it has some great ideas, that once Home is fully fleshed out, could be both cool and useful. For instance, the theater, mall, and arcade could be really sweet once fully fleshed out for the large community. Right now, doing anything in the Arcade is almost impossible due to amount of machines/bowling lanes compared to the number of players. And while the bowling is far from being anything other than a bulletpoint, as it's just meh, it's a cool little thing to do while keeping the true bowling-alley nature going on: talking with text or voice chat with quite a few other people nearby while casually playing is a neat idea.

I will say though, that I am very excited for the game-staging ability of Home, once they get that up. Obviously it's game-dependent, so the games that make use of Home will help add a great feature. That, and specific game rooms will be neat, with the possibility of some offering some great features. For example, Warhawk's room is supposed to have a sand-table-like feature where you can visually depict a strategy amongst your team before launching into the game. These kind of virtual-lobby style rooms will be a great addition.

I had a girl avatar on Playstation Home, then a bunch of people crowded towards me, and started friend requesting me. Srsly, thats so sad.

I agree with destrekor. It seems like a nice addition to PSN with it being free and all, but I ultimately will probably not get any use out of it. After spending 15 minutes inside Home, it's abundantly clear it's primarily a socializing app. It feels more like the next step for MySpace than it feels like a bullet-point feature on the back of the PS3 box. What they have there is actually pretty neat, and the ideas are pretty neat, but I'm not quite the target market.

Once they actually have an abundance of items and such in there, I can see myself enjoying sprucing up my living quarters, but that'll be about it. I hopped into the bowling alley today for a couple of minutes and got into a random pool game with somebody. I also tried one of the echochrome arcade machines, and it's all original, but pointless if you're like me and have no friends who play the PS3. Even if I did, I can't really see me and a couple of friends walking through Home together.

Overall, judging the beta where it's at right now, and thinking about where they want to take it with the final public release, it's definitely a neat idea. Just not for me I don't think.

Yeah, I still say... if they include the game lobby-style rooms with game launching, that'll be the most important feature in terms of its connection to PSN, otherwise, yeah it's a fancy Second Life meets PS3 app. It's connection to actual games is going to determine the benefit of this even existing for the console.

sad that you used a chick avatar? or sad that you accepted every friend request?

Got it. I had zero expectations for it but was pretty impressed. My avatar looked way too much like me though, kinda freaky.

I think this could be pretty big if they play their cards right. Good thing they took their time with out. Would have been a disaster if it came out last year.

Where do I sign up to get on the code-list from sony?

No idea, most of us didn't even ask to be in the beta. But I've been in quite a few beta programs for Sony in the past 8 years. Hell, I remember being in the beta for Auto Modellista on the PS2 (I still have the disc somewhere). I was in on a couple other PS2 betas, one of which I think was Gran Turismo online. There was another that I can't remember, but that's because I had no interest in it, and ended up selling it on eBay at the time for around $30. I also got a beta UMD for the first SOCOM game on the PSP.

I wonder how much of this crap I still have laying around....

It sounds like if you had a Playstation Underground account, then you got the code. At least that's the word on the webs as of now, but maybe not every single PSU member actually got a code.
I had the Playstation Underground back when it was a quarterly disc subscription, then it rolled into OPM, then it basically just became a name on the official PS website and forums.
Sounds like it was kind of a 'gift' to everyone for having a PSU account, what with the closure of the PSU in favor of just using PSN accounts on the website.

just had time to mess with it, i think its pretty cool, good idea. Now lets see if i ever use it after today...
