Playstation 3 RPG must-haves

Will probably be picking up a PS3 soon. I need to know the must-have RPG's for PS3. Please note I also have a PC so most Western RPG's I already play on my PC.

Here's what I have so far:

Dark Souls
Demon Souls
Tales of Vesperia
Resonance of Fate
Star Ocean
Eternal Sonata
Disgaea
Final Fantasy XIII (please, don't start this into a FFXIII complaint thread)

Those are off the top of my head. Feel free to add others. And yes, I am only getting the PS3 because of my need for JRPG's.

I don't think Tales of Vesperia has been released for the PlayStation 3 outside of Japan.

I haven't played it, but Valkyria Chronicles is well regarded.

Must buy for rpg fan
-Valkyria Chronicles
-Demon's Souls
-Dark Souls
-Disgaea 4
-Tales of Vesperia (I have it on Xbox)

Ok games that might be worth playing
Resonance of Fate (fun for awhile but every fight is the same. The same most simple strategy literally works for the whole game)
Eternal Sonata

Games that are horrible and should never be played
Star Ocean 4
FFXIII

In addition Dragon's Age series. I have some others I'm not sure about, some that aren't exactly RPG's like Heavy Rain or one I don't have, L. A. Noire.

You've pretty much listed all the non-western RPG's from most reviewer websites. Two others I would recommend would be Valkyria Chronicles and 3D Dot Game Heroes. Neither are a true RPG, but both are good games.

3D Dot Game Heroes is kind of like a 3D throwback to the first Zelda, and Valkyria Chronicles is an interesting take on a strategy meets basic RPG with some shooting elements in it. I enjoyed it, but have yet to finish it as I didn't like how it felt as though I had to play a particular way at later levels in order to finish. The difficulty curve is wonky as hell, more like a difficulty roller coaster. It is a fun game though.

3D DOT GAME HEROES! I can't believe I forgot it!

Just be careful though that at least one of those listed games (Disgaea) is a tactical RPG. Not saying that tactical RPGs should be avoided, but gameplay would be more like chess with RPG elements.

Yeah, I know; I like that genre as well (FF Tactics, Phantom Brave, previous Disgaea's 🙂 )

You asked a question, I posted to help you, you are insulting, have a good thread.

Wow you really have no idea do you?

Ok, I'll help:

I would get Demon's Souls and try it before you just up and buy Dark Souls. Demon's is well regarded but I just couldn't get into it with the slipshod controls and whole "This game is so hard we ain't telling you shit!" thing it tries to impress upon you. Yea sure it's a difficult game, but there's something to be said for not having to Google what's going on too.

Dark Souls is also a game that i consider to be a must have for everyone that want's to enjoy a true gaming experience !

I forgot about NIER. I don't think I would call it an RPG, but maybe an Action RPG. The combat is basic. There isn't a lot of variety to the enemies. But there are some RPG influences. There are plenty of different weapons and things to find. Additional story information on subsequent playthroughs.

They definitely tried to westernize NIER though. If you can get a copy of NIER: Replicant it seemed like that would be the one with more Japanese influence, all the way down to the storyline. I only have the regular NIER though. But I did enjoy it quite a lot. It was slow at times, but the story really got interesting towards the end. I still haven't unlocked the entire story as I guess it changes a bit and more things get shown to the player as you play a couple more times. I remember feeling for the characters at quite a few points in the story.

Once I finish Uncharted 2 I might go back and play that again. It definitely has its weaknesses, but it was a game I thoroughly enjoyed. Maybe it would be worth it to hunt down a copy of Replicant, hmmmm. EDIT: I don't read nor speak Japanese, so I guess I'm out of luck on Replicant. I thought there was mention of an English version but I guess I was incorrect.
