60GB Playstation 3 ($500) and $100 gift card ($100) for $500 total ($100 off). Good in-store until July 28th.

My twin brother an I just got our second PS3 yesterday at the only Hasting's store in Georgia. I believe it was the last one (the employees won't check for me and they didn't put another one out). Many of the employees think that the deal is dead because it was advertised on the "1-day sale" side of the flyer (for last Saturday), but it clearly states that the promo will continue until the 28th.* The discount seems to be automatic, even if the cashier quotes you the price + $100 (mine did). The discount applies after they press something else (like "total up" or something).

Unfortunately, I'm finding it pretty hard to use the gift card at Hasting's. They seem to add a mark-up to most of their accessories (Wii Nunchuk and Classic Controller cost $25ea), and Best Buy's Summer of Entertainment deal has me buying all my games and accessories there until August 25th. ;) They do special ordering so it's possible to get rare or uncommon games and movies from all around, so I figure that it'll come in useful for most games I can't find elsewhere. I considered using it on their Wii in the display case but I didn't want to encounter a D2B chip with cut legs or an unmodable D2C chip (my launch unit is comfortably modded).

The bookstore (primarily)/rental store/game store/software store/PC upgrade store has a penchant for small towns, but they are nation-wide and some of the towns they started in aren't so small anymore. This means you have the opportunity of price-matching at Circuit City or Best Buy. I'd suggest Best Buy for Reward Zone points because you'd have a hard time getting 10% of the difference at Circuit City (technically, you are charged $500 for the PS3, $100 for the GC, and refunded the $100 cost of the GC). Even Best Buy has turned me down on price-matching "buy X and get X free" promos, but people on CheapAssGamer.com have reported success (making me think I messed up). IIRC, last week's Best Buy ad said that they had double RZ points on music, movies, and games until September ($20 in certificates), so Best Buy may be the best place to do this.

*When I walked back in to spend my gift card, a game-section employee who didn't realize that started telling me that I had "missed out" on Saturday's deal.

Edit: Hasting's website is gohastings.com. Locations listed there. Oh, and BTW: The reason I call the price-drop "so-called" is because the 60GB model includes PS2 hardware that is not included in the new $600 80GB stock. The "price-cut" is really a fire sale to move them out and replace them with $600 stock. There will be no more PS3 consoles made with the PS2 CPU inside (Emotion Engine).

Just a bump in case someone actually has a local Hasting's and wants a PS3...

Two people, two high-end XBR televisions, two locations, one BRD collection, one PS2 game collection, NO PS3 game collection (we rent), two PS3s with PS2 hardware inside (important to us as we never owned a PS2). Is that so weird?

It's worth mentioning as "our" second PS3 because we are twins and our setups are inextricably intertwined. For instance, my $5,000 52" LCD is at his apartment because he lives upstairs while his $2,400 30" CRT (yes, the price and size is right because it's an SFP XBR) is at my gameroom ("barn") with all the classic game consoles due to space.

And I live in a trailer and drive a '93 Olds because of this gadget and technology lust. My brother walks to work. :)

Actually, we plan to claim the 5-free BD movies and sit on it until EE+GS PS3s are uncommon and then see if we can turn a buck. The 80GB $600 models replacing it will only have the PS2 GS chip inside and compatibility will suffer. If someone in the US doesn't want it, someone in the UK WILL (it's region-free, they never got the EE+GS model, and the retail taxes are insane). If the PS3 is hacked and requires a lower FW version, we'll open it and sell our old one. Also, I have a friend in Europe that may want in on the deal if I decide to back out of it.
