In an interview with Leo Laporte, The Tech Guy, Slingbox Vice President of Marketing Jay Tannenbaum announced that they are working on making the Slingbox compatible with the Playstation 3.

Presumably, this will happen as part of the Slingbox adding support for Adobe Flashplayer 10. The Playstation 3 currently only supports Adobe Flashplayer 9, however, which means Flashplayer 10 will have to be added in a future firmware update.

For those that don't now, Slingbox allows you to control and watch live or recorded TV content from your home to devices that are connected to the internet like PCs, laptops, and mobile phones. The Slingbox supports cable boxes, satellite boxes, over the air antennas, media centers and more as sources from which to stream.

Adding Slingbox support to the Playstation 3 will allow households with a home DVR or other device to stream content to another room or even to another household. This also opens up another world of possibilties for PSP owners because of Remote Play which allows them to control and view content from their PS3 remotedly on their PSP.

The addition of Slingbox support was mentioned only in passing so no word has been given on when Slingbox support might come to the PS3 but we are attempting to contact Mr. Tannenbaum for more details.

Does Slingbox require a subscription to these TV services? If not, I'd be sold, as I refuse to pay for TV.

No subscription other than the cost of the hardware and the cost of your internet service.
