PS3 firmware v2.53 bringing full screen Flash support

by Darren Murph, posted Nov 25th 2008 at 3:03PM

It seems like just yesterday (or last month, to be more exact) that we were enjoying the spoils of firmware 2.50, and now, Sony's giving us a little pre-Thanksgiving treat with version 2.53. Slated to hit the wires sometime on November 26th, the latest PlayStation 3 update will bring along full-screen Flash support (huzzah!) among other minor tweaks. Check the full changelog in the read link, and get ready to get your download on tomorrow.

Auto off on the controllers? That only took 2 years. But I'll take it.

And printer access...from a console? That just seems so odd. :)

Sorry, I edited the post and source. Appears most of the updates listed at the previous source were for v2.52. The newest v2.53 firmware update adds full screen flash.

I have v2.52 now and I can't do full screen hulu.

I'm hoping that they managed to improve the frame rate on Hulu a bit, too - it was a little choppy last time I tried it.

Does anyone know if the Amazon video rental service uses flash as well? They have a couple of rental deals for $.99 and it would be a lot easier to buy it that way and watch it, rather than going to the store...

it does. just on a very few select things right now. lately, hulu has been pissing me off, stuttering for no good reason when it has all the bandwidth available, even at it's lowest res.

pretty sure they use silverlight for rights management, so you'd be screwed there.

Full screen is still a little choppy. The fix is to download Flash Player 10, but they only included Flash player 9 with the firmware. WTFBBQ?
