Playstation 3 and speaker question

I've searched the net and through Google for a few hours, and cannot find anything to help.

I have a set of Logitech Z-5500 speakers 5.1 and want to hook them up in my living room to my LCD TV to use with the PS3.

My speakers

My LCD TV

How would I go about doing this ?

I posted it here, because it has to do with my PS3.

Get a digital optical cable and hook it from the PS3 to the speakers.

Your TV should have some audio out that you can hook up into the speakers as well.

So if I did that, the sound would come from the PS3 to the speakers as opposed to from the TV to the speakers ?

If I did this, would the speakers be able to output from watching TV as well ?

Would THIS work ?

I would need about 6 ft.

My inputs and outputs:

Input & Output(Side)

HDMI x 1

composite (AV) x 1

S-Video x 1

Headphone x 1

Input & Output(Back)

HDMI x 2

composite (AV) x 1

S-Video x 1

PC input (D-sub) 1

Component(Y/Pb/Pr) x 2

Yes, the sound would come from the PS3. Those speakers have the ability to switch between inputs so it shouldn't be a big deal. The TV doesn't have a digital audio output so it is best to hook up the PS3 straight to the speakers.

This should work.

This is the back of my set

I'd really like to have surround through my cable channels as well as the PS3. What here would you use ?

I know how to go about for the PS3 now. Just need a little info on the TV.

How are you getting your cable channels now? Do you have a set-top box? If so, just hook the set top box up to speakers. If the cable is going straight to the TV, it looks like there is an optical audio out on the back of the TV that you should be able to hook up to the speakers.

You'll probably need a Digital Optical to Digital Coaxial converter though since the speakers have only one optical in.

The channels now are only picked up by the TV itself. Just programmed them in.

Yea, there is an optical audio out on the back, but it would go to the speakers. And would be a pain to switch back and and forth between the PS3 and TV.

I need a way to hook up the PS3 to optical, but at the same time, when im done with the PS3 and watching TV, for the surround to work as well.

Would the box you linked to support that ? Hook both up at the same time ? If so, ill go ahead and order it.

As you can tell, I'm not that good with wiring stuff up. 🙂

EDIT: It looks like there are two optical outputs on the TV. Is one only for PC or could I use one for the speakers and on for the TV ?

Yes. As an example:
Plug a digital optical optical cable from the PS3 to the digital optical input on the speakers.
Plug a short digital optical cable from the TV out to the converter box. Plug a digital coaxial cable from the converter box to the digital coaxial input on the speakers.

Now you can just use the speaker remote to switch back and forth.

Ah, ok...I see what your saying. Thanks man...you've been a great help.

Going to order the stuff now 🙂

I would really suggest you just pick up a $7 manual optical switcher from mono-price and enough cables to do what you want to do. I have the same speakers, and the LN-T4065F. I have a PS3, 360, HD-DVD player, and a HD set top box connected to the speakers. The PS3/360/HD-DVD are all connected via optical and run through a 3 way switcher. The HD set top box is run coax directly to the speakers. In your situation, you could just run an optical line from both the TV and the PS3 to the switcher, and then from the switcher to your speakers.
