A few weeks back I bought the Playstation 3 250 GB Bundle that came with The Last Of Us game. since that time....I have picked up quite a few games for it. Here is a few of them...

Metal Gear Solid 4
Heavenly Sword
Ninja Gaiden 2
Devil May Cry 4

And some others that require you to install to the hard drive. And they ALL install perfectly fine....except for Devil May Cry 4.

I ordered Devil May Cry 4 from the Gamestop website. And it would ONLY install until it got to 3% and would just do nothing else. I don't think it froze because I could still press the PS button and quit the game....and the background slides during install would keep playing. Although the install music would cut in and out. Left it sit for almost 2 hours with zero progress.

So....thinking it was a bad disc, I bought another copy which was just about new and although it would install a little further..it would stop and hang at 1162 MB which is 20%. Every time it would hit that mark, and stop...but not freeze.

Things I have tried was...
...Complete system restore
...OS rebuild from the Safe Mode
...Restored files from Safe Mode
...deleted all game data, and saved game files

Nothing will get it to install. It is the new Slim model that the disc tray slides open on the top, and I'm guessing it don't need updated. It has Firmware 4.0 or something to that effect. Oh..and where I live the only internet that is available is satellite, and they haven't showed up to install it yet. Haven't lived here long.

I have searched online on an iPad at a hotspot for days :) with no luck. Some has had this problem, but I cannot find a fix for it. There is no one nearby with a PS3 I could try the game in...the closest is my brother and he is 77 miles away

So, does anyone here know what is going on ?

Surely someone has had an issue like this or similar. Very frustrating and makes zero sense.

I looked on different forums and never found answers like you. Don't know what to tell you.

All I can think of for you is to try and update the firmware for your ps3 when you get a chance.

Current version is 4.55

If yours is older than that... maybe it'll fix it (slim chance...)

Only other things I can think is maybe wherever your grabbing the copies from have a bad batch of discs laying around and I would recommend trying somewhere you wouldn't normally go to. (assuming you haven't already.)

or

You ps3 is defective, with a bad laser.

Best I can think of...

My first copy came from a game store in Virginia....and the second copy from Maryland. I'm gonna buy a new copy and try it...and update the system once the net is installed in 2 days. If that fails....well nothing else I can do besides try a new console. That is the only option left I guess. But if anyone else has any ideas... I'm all ears.

This happened to me a few years ago with the first uncharted game. Bought it used, and it would freeze on me. Swapped it at the store and bought it used and the same thing happened again! Took it back and bought it again from another store and all was fine. I freaked out because what are the chances I would have the same issue from 2 different games. Well, third time was the charm. Take your game back and try from a different store.

Well, the internet finally got installed. So before I go to bed I am going to see if there are any updates for the PS3 and i'm sure there is and install it and try to install the game again. It may work, it may not. But if it don't, I plan on purchasing a new copy of the game on Amazon and trying that.

Will post back in a bit with the results after the update in case anyone else has a problem similar to this one.

It was a no go. I updated the PS3 from version 4.50 to 4.55 and it still stops at 1162 MB, which is 20%.

Off to buy a new copy. Since there are several games I dont have, im just going to grab the Capcom Essentials set.

Decided to just purchase a new copy of Devil May Cry 4. And behold....it installed perfectly fine.

So, I guess the first two discs that I bought were indeed bad. Oh well, got a new copy now, and I am now using the two bad discs for coasters. :)

Im just grateful it was indeed the discs, and not the console itself or the hard drive.
