Playstation 2 (RCA) sound to PC speakers...

I am currently looking to hook up my Playstation 2 to my monitor/PC speakers. Obviously there are RCA to S-Video I can use but for sound what do I do?

Should I get cables to hook the speakers directly up to the PS2? The PS2 output is male, and obviously so is the 3.5mm connection for the speakers. How does this work? I would need two female ends for them. I am unable to find a speaker. The speakers also have a headphone jack on them, but I think that's just for duplicating the sound to separate headphones.

They also have RCA audio to 3.5MM jack as well to plug into the sound card. But obviously that's for playing music and outputting it to my headphones... not for in. I guess the Audigy 2 ZS does have a line in but... what am I suppose to use to capture this sound and play it back in real time? I am going crazy over this... way too complicated for something that should be relatively simple.

So you have the video end of things working alright already?

You can either get an adapter to plug the output of the PS2 into your speakers, or you could run the output of the PS2 into an input on your soundcard.

Here's an old diagram I made

You could either plug that 3.5mm male connection into the input of your soundcard, or you could get a 3.5mm coupler to change it to female so you could plug your speakers directly to it.

As far as video goes, I assume I can just use the yellow to S-Video cable and then use the other for the audio.

Yeahhh that's the diagram I need. Thanks. I was looking for a cable that would basically combine the two cables inbetween the speakers and the RCA.

Would plugging it through the sound card give me better sound?

Well I'm not sure exactly which video adapters you're talking about and how you actually plan on hooking that up to the monitor... does your monitor have S-Video or Composite (Yellow) input on it then? (Note that trying to hook up the PS2 to the S-video or Composite output on your videocard will not work)

Through the soundcard probably will not improve the sound, but it might make it easier to hook everything up since you could keep everything plugged in all the time. Down side is that you'd have to have the computer on to get sound from the PS2 (not sure if that matters to you), and there's the possibility that you may even run into issues with the sound not being as good running through the soundcard.

Yes my monitor has the S-video connection on it, not using any capture or VIVO video card.

Thanks on the sound portion. I don't mind my computer being on to play the PS2, as it's always on really.

Well then running to the line-in on the soundcard should work if that's free. I haven't tried it on the card you have, but if you run into trouble, then getting a 3.5mm coupler and hooking up directly to the speakers will solve any soundcard problems.
