Playstation 2 Question, Please Respond

I always play PC games, but had a question regarding Playstation 2 or Xbox that I hope someone knows the answer to. Can I hook up a Playstation 2 or Xbox and play it through my PC monitor or does it have to play through a TV?

There are some good PS2 games that are not available for PC that I want to buy. Any help would be appreciated. I have no clue as to how a Playstation 2 or Xbox hooks up.

Thanks,
Hans Groenewold

Depending on monitor, you can use S-Video, composite, component or even VGA if an adaper exists. However, due to the higher rez of PC displays, you will get better quality if you use component or VGA inputs. S-video and composite tend to look like ass on a CRT or LCD

Wow, at $199. that converter costs more than the PS2. It would be cheaper to buy a standard 27" TV from Wal Mart for $120.and use that. The Lik-Sang link didn't show a price, you know how much that one is and does it perform the same function? By the way, my monitor is an 19" CRT Sylvania, about three years old but still has nice picture quality. Thanks guys.

Sincerely,
Hans

there are chaper ones. search for component scan converter.

this will give you hdtv quality picture so compare it to buying a hdtv.

when my evga 7800GT comes in, i am going to try to use the VIVO box and either s-video or i'll buy the Component AV Cable.

Just not sure what to use to make it display on the screen yet and i don't have the card yet either.

you will have to use svideo. video cards dont have component in.

The video card I have a 6800 Ultra, 256 MB. I haven't checked yet but you guys think it's already set up to do this function, to have the Playstation run through the graphics card and into the PC monitor?

Sincerely,
Hans

to get the best quality you need to get the component cables for the ps2 and get a scan converter such as this: http://www.viewsonic.com/products/tvent...inment/tvvideoprocessors/nextvisionn6/

this will give you an hd quality image from the ps2(or and component source) to the vga monitor.

It won't be HD because there's only 1 game that I know of that supports any HD resolution on the PS2: Gran Turismo 4.

Quite a few games do at least support 480p, though 🙂 . I run component video to my HDTV and it looks very nice 🙂 .
