Playstation 2 problem

Last Christmas I bought a used PS2 and some used games from ebworld.com. Everything worked fine when I received it with the exception that one of the used games would not be read. I returned it and promptly received another used game (same title) from ebworld.com. Checked the game, and it still didn't work, so I tossed it aside to worry about it later.

Now the last month and a half or so, more more of the games (I have about 8) can not be read by the console. I thought it was the used discs and possible scratches, but when I plunked in a new GTA:VC and that wouldn't be read, then I knew it was the console.

Anyone else experience this problem?
What may be causing it?
What can I do to fix it?

I prefer not to get in a pi$$ing match with ebworld, so I prefer to fix this myself even if it cost a few bucks. Thanks.

Is the PS2 still covered by the EB warranty? If so, take it in and raise hell until you get a new one.
If not ... umm ... well, I'll need more details. Is it not reading DVDs/CDs/anything at all?

I refuse to buy anything with a CD or DVD drive in it made by sony. Every single sony CD or DVD player I've ever had has first stopped playing CD-Rs, and then on several ocassions stopped working altogether.

It reads only one game right now out of the 8. I have not tried DVDs or music CDs. I also got it from the online store and it was used, so not sure what their policy is after the normal 30-day period.

Every time I buy something with moving parts I make sure to get a warranty.

The extra $30 or so is worth 2 years' peace of mind IMO.

do you keep your ps2 in a vertical position? i have heard people have problems with the ps2 after doing that.

No, only in a horizontal position.

I have the same problem with mine! At first, only discs with purple bottoms wouldn't work. Now, most discs won't work in it! Let me know if you get anywhere in reguards to fixing it.

Which model playstations do you guys own? If its the same one thats not working properly maybe this is something you can take up with Sony. I own the first model PS2 and never had any problems with it, but maybe they did something to the lasers intensity in any revisions they made. Might want to email Sony about this see if they can give you any help.

hmmm, I'll have to check the color of the bottoms of the disks.

I'm not sure, but I'll check when I get home.
