Hey there,

A friend of mine made a back up of Kingdom Hearts Final Mix for me on his computer. When he sent it to me he zipped it, i want to burn it but my delemia is that they are broken down into images (being .MDS and .MDF) there is one .MDF which is the largest file which i am assuming is the majority of the game but the other zipped files labelled Kingdom_Hearts_Final_Mix.part0X (Xbeing the number of the part). All the other Parts contain one .MDS file and i can't put them into a folder with the other ones because it has the same file name. I'm not sure how Playstation game files point to each other but some help would be great.

Thanks

open it with burning software that recognizes MDS/MDF format. It IS a single image.

Alcohol 120% will do this for you.

It doesn't matter if you even get it to burn right... as the backup won't play unless your ps2 has a modchip or you have swap discs. And if you had either of those, I'd expect you to know how to handle images. So my senses tell you you're screwed. Go buy the game.

I bought the game as a gift so don't give me sh!t about pirating, he doesn't take good care of his games and dealing with play-asia was a hassle so i'm not buying another disc. It was my room mate who did the disk imaging and he isn't gonna be around for while, I was just wondering why it was broken up like that with multiple .MDS files.
If you don't have any insight as to why the game is broken up like this don't post.

Google would be your best friend on this one. And FTR: you need a modded PS2 or swap disk for a back-up to work most of the time.

Or HD loader. But you don't seem like you're bright enough to even plug the hard drive in, let alone mount the image.

I have swap Magic. Now if no one can answer my question about why my room mate broke it into parts with the same .MDS file in each part, that is all I want to know. I haven't backed up PS2 games before so forgive my newness to the process. Oh and to namelessentity I have just taken my A+ cert for Hardware and Software with high marks on both and also certified in Cisco, why don't you go play in traffic or something.
Insights would be great, critizism is unneeded. I thought these forums were made for help and discussion not ridicule and nerds using their "facelessness" on the internet to insult people.

Sounds like it was RAR'd. Is there a file marked .rar? If not, download WinRAR and use it to open the part01 file and extract. From there you can burn it with DVDDecrypter or similar tool.

Alright MustISO stick with me on this, I'm tired of dealing with these previous jokers.
My room mate gave me a folder filled with zipped (Type: WinZip File), the zipped files are labelled Kingdom_Hearts_Final_Mix.part0X (X being the number of the part i.e part01, part02...etc). Inside part01 there was the .MDF file and a .MDS, all the other zipped folders contain .MDS all named the same thing. I am just wondering why are there all these .MDS files and how do I get them in atleast the same folder and have a usable fully working back up at the end?

That would have been good stuff to know in the first place... since you made it sound like you had a bare ps2 and nothing else. I was just trying to save you the hassle of dealing w/ the image since it sounded like you couldn't use it anyways. Plus you can excuse the automatic jump to piracy, as that's usually the case. It's a touchy issue so you can't really take offense about it.

Use winrar like mustISO said, and open ONE of the parts with winrar. It should have the full image in there, just drag and drop it into a folder of your choice. Winrar will automatically use all of the parts so you don't have to open each individually, and the full file will be where you drag n dropped it.

You are not being very clear on this. If your "friend" made the image ask him. He should not have zipped up parts you don't need. (unless he is retarded or he screwed it up)

If the zip file is in 50 pieces then it was probably downloaded from the internets! If you actually have the game use dvd decryptor and back it up yourself. I should be easy because all you need is the GAME DISC and a DVD drive.

If I don't have to rerip it, then i'm not going to, aside from that my firend is a slob and it will take forever for him to find the game. So Far I have personally backed up Burnout 3 for him using Alchol 120% and then wrote the image to a disc using DVD decryptor at the 2,4 X speed (used DVD cuz Alchol wouldn't let me turn the speed down**, *first time I've used Alchol but yes i did see the PS2 profile when I backed up Burnout). I haven't had a chance to try the disc yet to see if it worked.

** Just opened Alchol and looked around, it will let me go as low as a 4X burn

Yes he is abit of an idiot, he is one of those people that do rip games to put on the internet, he's gone on vacation down to Texas so he won't be back for a week.
