pretty specific conditions for claiming, and you need proof of purchase, but you could possibly get a new ps2 for $42 (plus shipping) or a free game (from a specific list). Class claims due by Feb. 06, final judges decision supposedly March 06. Read up for yourself.

Well, my PS2 has the right model number... and I think I had trouble running a certain game that I could a few years back... hmm

interesting bit,

How much are Plaintiffs? Attorneys being paid? (top)
It is up to the court to decide how much Plaintiffs? Attorneys may be paid by SCEA for attorneys? fees and expenses. SCEA will not oppose a request for up to $700,000 (U.S.) and Plaintiffs? Attorneys have agreed not to ask the court for more than $1,500,000 (U.S.).

I had no idea this was happening. That's great, because I never was able to get Jak2 to work consistently. :(

i swapped mine for a slim version a while back, so I don't really care anymore. It was a pain in the @ss to go through those errors though.

I have a 3001 that works just fine here. I'm one of the few people I know that has one working great.

I had that problem. I just took mine apart and adjusted the laser.

Didn't have to join a class lawsuit...

I had this problem, so I called them and sent it in to get it repaired under warranty*. They did fix it, but they sent me a different one with a different serial number and of course it was a refurbished one that had a metallic sticker on there that said, "not for resale"..makes it look like crap. Anyways, I still occasionally have this problem and can't get tekken tag to work consistently...I wonder if I'm still in because:

"Loss of Use Subclass. You are part of the Loss of Use Subclass if, within 13 months after the date your PS2 was purchased: (a) your PS2 had problems with allegedly inappropriate ?Disc Read Error? messages, alleged failure to play, or alleged damage to CDs or DVDs during playback; (b) you contacted SCEA or Plaintiffs? Attorneys for repair information; and (c) you did not have the PS2 repaired because of the cost."

They did "repair it" perse...oh well, I don't play too many video games these days anyways. Maybe several years down the road PS3 will be rather cheap or PS2 will become very cheap for me to consider it worth buying.

edit: can't believe I spelled warranty like, "warrenty". =P

i've got a 30001 that works ok, it wont play some burned DVDs or real DVDs (specifically newer ones) and some games. I've had to take it apart a few times to adjust the laser frequency. I'd totally go for this, but I dont have proof of purchase *arg*

Ugh. What, do you expect a firm to spend hundreds or thousands of hours litigating a case in exchange for a free copy of Metal Gear Solid? It says right there that the court will decide compensation, so it's not like the lawyers assign their own fees.

That said, if we get any deeper into this it'll have to be in the P&N forum, which is where informed debate goes to die....
