playlists/features on flash mp3 players

I bought a sandisk 1gb flash player today, and I'm thinking of returning it unless I can figure out how to have some sort of organization with all the files. I'd like to be able to look at my music by artist or playlist without having to create new folders and copy/paste for each function, which also happens to eat up all my storage space.

Does the drive organize just by folders or from the ID3 tags?
