Want to play with a crossfire setup. Is it worth messing with?

Is there any disadvantage to mixing a c3d x800 gto unlocked to 16 pipe with a ATI Radeon X850 Crossfire Edition?

Got a good link to reviews?

Thanx chris!

In terms of gaming there probably isn't a disadvantage (excepet maybe the need for profiles I suppose) but I don't know about running dual displays. Oh and X8XX crossfire is limited to 1600x1200 @60Hz resolution I think.

better to sell and get a better card. Like an x1900xt -- $399 @ newegg...but @ the moment sold out (for obvious reasons!)

Yeah, unfortunately CF still has growing pains (not that SLI doesn't too; but SLI has fewer it seems).
I'd sell your current card & get an X1900GT/X1800XT/X1900XT/7900GT depending on your budget.

It's not that in so much that since that's low end he may as well get a better single card, IMO.

At this point in time I am still against SLI and Crossfire. First there are dual card idiosyncrasies. While in general both SLI and Crossfire work, it's still not completely problem free. There are still plenty of problems that are not exhibited on single card solutions. Another thing is power requirements, especially on the ATI side of things. I'd wait until the next generation before seriously evaluating a SLI or Crossfire solution as these new cores should be built with dual cards in mind and should have corrected most of the kinks present in the current implementations.

IMO
If you want to get to something more than a 1900XT/XTX or 7950GX2 or 7900GX2, then it is time to go SLi CF
