Hi

I was not able to play WC3 on my notebook after I reinstalled my winxp, I believe that I could not play it even before I reinstalled the winxp as I had done all the compaq updates.

Anyone with the same problem on this laptop please help me if you have the same problem. I have tried various settings, in display properties, directx, hardware acceleration, ect.

My notebook is 1500+xp, 256 ddrram(64 shared with radeon U1 IGP), 15inch sxga, and I can run the WC3's testing program but I still have the problem getting into the game itself. The opening
movie opens up fine but when it tries to load the main menu for the game, it gives a ACCESS Violation error and says that a certain memory could not be 'read'.

I have send inquiries to compaq and blizzard and so far all they did is suggest me to vary all kind of setting and do some basic diagnostic that I already did.

Therefore anyone who could help I would appreciate it alot.

For your information, UT2002 plays fine, Jedi knight plays fine, but battle1943 demo does not play at all. Have not tried other games since WC3 gotten stuck.

And my ze4101 with similar specs 1500+xp, radeon U1 IGP.......surprisingly with only 128ddram it actually played WC3. I also tried switching rams, removing rams and stuff like this to see what happends but the results is the same.

OH thanks for the fast and prompt reply.

I knew it. I knew that people at anandtech is so freaking good. BTW I had tried to search for answers in blizzards website but came up with nothing. But thanks to you and your search skills you had solved my problem, well kind of not directly but indirectly.

So this is how, I click on your link and follow the error message :Fatal error C00000005 access violation CAnnot read memory.

Anyway that links to a page that asked me to do readjust the hardware accerleration, directX, opengl and other basic stuff. Then I knew that damn I am back to square one but then as I scroll to the bottom of the page I notice something, click here if it does not solve your problem, so I did and that page was something to do with SoundMAX soundware, and I was like OMG I hit the mother node, my system is loaded with Soundmax drivers. And I downloaded a registry patch that will combine and make the game use the ingame emulated sound or just downgrade the sound hardware acceleration.

So it had nothing to do with the IGP and s h i t about memory its about Sound driver..... boy that is a really new kind of fix....I would never thought of it.
The game is working..........and I can stop bitching at my self or the CSR on the phone, I am very happy.
