Playing video on TV via notebook & S-Video cable

I have an IBM T41. Recently I tried connecting my laptop to a tv via s-video cable because I wanted to watch some video files (avi, mpeg, etc) on a larger screen. I tried to run an avi file with wmp 6.4, and it didn't work (all that displayed within the wmp window was blackness). I then tried wmp 9, and it worked perfectly. Then in the middle of watching, I paused, and when I tried playing again, all that displayed on the TV screen (within wmp where the video is supposed to show) was blackness (everything else like start button, desktop, toolbar, windows explorer, etc display fine). I tried vlc and other programs, but none of those displayed either. Restarting doesn't help, and I've never been able to get video files to display on the tv anymore. I did not change any settings. Any ideas how to get it to work again?

I've had this happen before. Think that you need to make sure the laptop display is "off" in the control panel and only the display on the TV is showing. At least thats how it works on my laptop with an ATI 7500m.

Umm.. this is just a guess but I think that you need to make your TV your primary display and you LCD your secondary display in the display control panel.

Try that.
