Playing Video Games on a Plasma?

I just bought a beautiful new Plasma and I'm really paranoid to game on it. I've taken all the precautions to reduce burn in and have the contrast turned down. However it still freaks me out to play on it. Am I being too cautious? Should I get an LCD instead? Do you play videos games on a plasma?

I game on my Panasonic plasma, and sometimes (rarely) theres some IR after, but it goes away after a while.

I play video games on my plasma. You shouldn't worry too much about it. If there are static images on the screen for several hours, you may see some image retention, but this should pass after a short time.

Nonetheless, I would properly break in the set before doing any extended gaming sessions.

If you have to worry about it that much, then it's not a good product.

Just use it the way you want.

It's a Samsung plasma and I'm hoping it will last a while. I'm glad to hear that there are people who play games on Plasmas without much effect.

After the first 200 hours of break in I wouldn't worry about it.

Yep!

I took the same approach. I have a 15 month old panasonic plasma and I dont notice any burn in at all after I play a game. PS2 actually looks like crap on it for the most part because the TV shows every flaw.

by the time you break the TV, a replacement plasma or LCD would be dirt cheap
in other words, don't worry about it

I was sorely disappointed when I hooked my PS2 up to my new HDTV. It really does look horrible.

which model of samsung do you have? I have the 5054 and it has the pixel shifting thing to avoid burn-in. But since this was my new tv after college I was a little paranoid, I ran this break-in dvd for a couple hrs - http://www.eaprogramming.com/

The folks over at avs said that Discovery HD is another good channel to watch during the first 100hrs.

I have the 4273 model which has pixel shifting and I've set it to max shifting. I've pretty much broken it in over 100 hrs but will wait for the 200 hr mark before some long gaming sessions. I will try out the break in dvd.

All the stuff you read about plasma makes you paranoid sometimes.

That's because of all the disinformation about plasmas and the myths that for some odd reason still exists

I've been gaming on a plasma for probably 5 years. No problems whatsoever.

connecting your device to the screen is not as simple as using your typical cables. Use at least component or higher.

Just break it in and you'll be fine. There will be some image retention, but that will go away. I leave my plasma on 50% brightness because it's more than bright enough and according to the TV guy at the store, it will help prolong the life of the set.

Game away. I do.

My PS2 looks like crap on a 30" CRT HDTV with component cables. The weak link is the crappy 480i\p signal the PS2 outputs.

I have a wii and I've found that a lot of games have black bars on the sides like Mario Paper and FarCry(worst game ever). The bars aren't as big as watching non-stretched tv but they are there. Should I care?

Shouldn't really bother you if you set your Wii to widescreen mode, like you should have.

What's wonderful about Panasonic Plasmas are that they move static images around a few pixels at a time to prevent burn in.
