Playing VCDs in win2k

I cannot play VCD in win2000, everytime I try to open the .dat file WMP7 gives me an I/O error?

Does anybody else have this problem or know how to solve it?

Its just a mpeg-1 file, so should play fine. I use PowerDVD to play VCD's so they just autoplay, but I've used WMP6.4 and ATI's file player...no problems. are you dragging and dropping the *.dat files, or do you have them associated with WMP7? Have you tried WMP6.4?
