Playing Quake 2 Without a cd drive?

I want to play quake 2 on my tablet pc but the after sharing the cd drive over my home network, i can install it and get it to run, but when I try to play it it just says I need to have the cd.

Is there anyway I can play without having a cd drive connected to my computer?

If you do the max install, it doesn't need the CD.

Are you sure? I did the max install. If i copied the cd to my tablet harddrive to you think that would work?

I don't know. I just installed it and I don't need the CD.

What version are you running? Mine is 3.14.

If I remember correctly, one of the later patches removed the CD check. 3.20 is the last version I remember downloading back in the day, so you could definitely upgrade and see if that helps.
