Looks like my options are limited with my Galaxy S3, to get an AUX port in there the dealer quoted $500, which amounts to installing a port and then reprogramming the idrive system to include AUX in there.

Do I have any alternatives? I have bluetooth in the car but it's only for phone calls, is there an app that would simulate music as a phone call?

Possibly but most likely it would be mono and sound like shit. Gotta pay to play when it comes to BMW.

Looks like the cable is just over $50, but you have to have the aux coded in, so figure another $250 at least. $500 is probably list cost for the install.

Wait, it doesn't have the aux line in installed? I thought that was standard.

Try looking at bimmerfest or bimmerforums, very helpful

Damn. If it were me, I'd live with burning mp3s to disc. Can the stock head unit read mp3s on DVD? If so, you at least can get some GBs of music in there that way.

I love the idea of using the phone BT profile for doing a half assed A2DP connection to the car. While the sound quality will be less it should be better than telephone quality. http://android.stackexchange.com/questions/3154/podcast-player-and-bluetooth

I'm going to do more research in this regard as I have built-in bluetooth in my car but no A2DP which sucks.

So your car doesn't have a TAPE DECK or an AUX port?

No =/ New enough that it doesn't have tape, not new enough that AUX is standard.

does it have a cd changer port in the trunk or elsewhere? or does it have XM radio? if so you could probably get a cd-changer/xm to aux in adapter. not sure if that would require reflashing the head unit though. check usa-spec, grom, and peripheral/iSimple for your make/model.

here's one option that is supposedly compatible with your car

almost as pricy as the dealer but a lot more functionality

I'm kind of surprised yours doesn't have an AUX port standard... my parent's have a 06 325i and it has an AUX port.

maybe the AUX port is hidden somewhere. I saw that on my '07 ES350 that the AUX port was in the center console under the lid. Maybe read the owners manual or something.
