Playing Movies on a Playstation-Possible??

OK, I know the Sony Playstation can read movies of some type...because some games I have for it have 'special feature' discs and whatnot with interviews, behind the scenes, etc footage. So, my question is, is it possible to have movies that I've downloaded on my computer, burn them onto CD, and watch them on my playstation? What format would they have to be, and if it's something weird that no one's ever heard of, is there a way I can convert mpeg's and whatnot to it?

What about Sega Dreamcast?

Thanks for your advice.

Well, there's the VCD adaptor that you can get.. either wired onto the board or a plug in thing that hooks onto the back.. Some friends have it, that's all I know

You need to add a hardware addon to the PSX to play VCD's.

There is a program you can use to play VCD's on the Dreamcast, no hardware is needed.

Here's the str encoder. What sucks is it can't compress from MPEG or DivX or most any other codec, it needs to be uncompressed avi and once it's compressed in str it's still pretty massive (20MB a minute if I recall correctly, but what do you expect, the codec was made in '92). You'll also need a pro-action replay or goldfinger or gameshark with modchip in order to play the movie. And oh yeah, from my limited experience it's smart to put about a 100MB buffer area at the beginning of the CD to prevent skipping (make sure your software burns it at the beginning of the cd or else it will be a waste of space.)

D'oh! I don't know what pro-action replay is...I don't know what Goldfinger is, I don't own a gameshark, nor a modchip...and I have no idea what you're talking about with the buffer area. D'oh!

You don't know anything, you don't have any of the necessary hardware or software, and you want to play movies on your PSX without having to learn anything or buy anything.

Are you for real?

Well, gee, it's wonderful people like you who spread the knowledge, and teach people like me how to do things like this. I didn't say I was unwilling to buy anything...I didn't say I was unwilling to learn...guess what, you weren't born with the knowledge either. If you care to teach me, then PM me or reply to this thread. If you want to go on insulting me, that's fine too.

edit: i see that you're assuming that I refuse to buy or learn because I asked if someone knew a way that didn't involve learning or buying. But I didn't say that if such a method doesn't exist, then I give up. Don't jump to conclusions. Wouldn't you check to see if there's a simple, free way to do something before you dive right in?

you first need to get your psx chipped

if you don't know how to solder, you can't even do this, so this whole thing is pointless

Does it make a difference if I own a PSOne (y'know...one of those small, new ones)...as opposed to a regular playstation?

Try looking around here for a boot disk. I'm not sure if you need your psone modded for it. Never tryed them since I have a goldfinger. And if you seriously want to watch full length movies on your psone, don't bother.

You need to add stuff to it. Then it can play VCDs, but no MPEG movies. My friend has one that plugs into the back of the PS.
