Also it's a bit ambiguous about certain information, I remember I had to google how to pump the first pneumatic weapon I found lol

I'm a self proclaimed Metro "fan boy" but I wholeheartedly I agree with you here. I thought they kinda left out instructions for certain things just like what you experienced.

I think Metro gets a bad rap because it just isn't like most FPS, yet, it appears that it is. Metro makes you pay for running into rooms and spraying ammo all over the place. It one of the few FPS that I was always concerned over the ammount of ammo (or lack of thereof) I had on me at all times.

Google is your friend. I'll take a little ambiguity over all the arcade style flashing lights, bells, whistles, and tutorials you can't shut off.

Good answer! I hate the spoon feeding happening in some of the latest games. If I play a game several times and I find every time something I didn't know was there before, it's all the more reason for me to start yet another playthrough.

To give one example, I'm playing Borderlands and I found a dude in Rust Commons East that gave me mission I never knew about before, because it unlocks as soon as you get the bridges lowered. I like that sort of thing!

For Metro the confusion is supposed to be part of the game. I'd say the learning curve is a little too steep for Metro, but well worth it and like you say, it gives the game more replay value.

So I decided to go give Metro another try. Yep it's just as glitchy as I remember. I had to redo an entire section (the section where Burbon gets captured) because in the section afterwards my savegame messed up and I couldn't select any weapons. Then later on I knife a guy right in front of another guy and the other guy doesn't even notice. WTF... Then I knife the other guy in the back and suddenly the whole base is alerted to my presence. I'm trying really hard to like this game, but it fails technically on so many levels...

I agree, the game has a lot of problems from really bad AI to clipping everywhere, but I'm willing to put up with them for all the other things it has to offer. Hopefully they'll work some of the kinks out in the next game.

Great game. Had to turn to easy. Was getting slaughtered on normal. Currently playing with a highly overclocked gtx 580 @ 1080p and still have to turn some settings down. Geez.

I got it free with a vid card, which is good because it sucks. AI is stupid, Guns seem they are all the same with a small pistol seeming to do as much damage as a shotgun at close range. The enemies appear to sometimes be able to walk through walls AND YOU. i once was in a hallway not wide enough for 2 people to pass running backwards shooting and had to reload and when i was done reloading the bad guy was gone and i was like wtf i guess i got a glitch in my favor but then he shot me from behind, yeah ok how did he get there?

A bit further along in the game now. I am actually enjoying it, although there are definitely spots where the game could use some more polish. For the most part the enemy AI is the biggest issue. I have given up on being stealthy for the most part, as something always goes wrong. If they make a sequel (which I think they are) I will probably pick it up. Hopefully they fix some of the obvious issues with the game.

I just now got around to playing this during Christmas vacation, and I'm not enjoying it at all. Allow me to list it's many deficiencies:
1) Unskippable Intro Videos, always a fan favorite
2) Defaults to xbox 360 controller, with no way to disable it
3) No v-sync
4) My gas mask got all banged up a couple of levels ago and now I can't take it off and I can't see anything. I haven't seen anyone else wearing a gas mask in several levels, so I assume I don't need one, but there's no way to take it off. It's a deal breaker, I can't play like this.

This cost me $7 or so on Steam, and it's not worth half that.

I can't speak for the first three, but you can take off your gas mask. However, depending on where you are you'll suffocate and die because of the air quality. :p

Yea, unless there is a glitch you can take off the mask. I think you just hit the same key you use to equip it, but I dont recall for sure, since I havent played for quite a while. I did find the areas where you use the mask to be difficult, since I tend to have trouble with pathfinding, and if you get lost or wonder around too much you run out of filters and have to start the entire level over.

I also dont recall having any issues with the controls. I think it defaulted to keyboard/mouse when I played it.

Press g to put it on, hold g to take it off. Also, there's a ton of replacement masks all over the place, including on just about every other dead body.

I'm aware that you should be able to take to take off the mask by pressing 'g.' However, there's a glitch where you can't take the mask off, and you can't trade it for another non-busted mask. I ended up reloading to an earlier chapter and was able to take my mask off. However, upon reaching my previous level of progress, I decided that nothing was going to change my mind about hating the game and quit. I was on the "Front Line" level, where you're riding with the communists to go fight the nazis. I'm pretty sure that's about 95% of the way through the game, without checking or anything, so I got my money's worth from this glitchy, poorly thought out game.

I'll give a specific example, and this applies to the STALKER games as well: when you crouch the movement is instantaneous, like you teleported to a crouching position. It's a very immediate and unnatural movement that is not like in any other games I have played in the last 5 years.

I know exactly what you mean. In Metro 2033 it happens when you sprint. Right when you stop sprinting the camera will "pop" upwards. But that's not what irritates me, what irritates me is the fact the game stutters so damn much, like once every 5 or 20 seconds. I just don't understand how they could make the most linear game in the world stutter more than Fallout 3.
If the performance issues could be fixed, it would be the best FPS in the world. The writing is just so immersive and engaging. Stories in FPS games tend to be either cliché (CoD) or dull and pretentious (Bioshock), Metro is a breath of fresh air.
Also, the gameplay never feels repetitive, nothing in this game is ever dragged out too much.

Metro and Stalker are like a freaky hot goth girl. Strange, different, and definitely glitchy but I just keep coming back for more.

I actually dislike Metro less than I dislike STALKER. I tried STALKER repeatedly (I have all the expansions) and could never get more than an hour into it. I even tried the STALKER complete mod to try to fix the guns, and I still hated it. I think they're both pretty close on the ol' hate-o-meter though.

I keep pressing g for gun and nothing happens.

This is a glitch. I bought the game for a buddy of mine who loves Stalker. He had the same issue where he was not able to remove his mask. He had to reload the last save before he put it on and it then started to work without issue. I was fortunate enough to not hit any bugs my first playthrough. I loves this game, it's tough and very atmospheric. I am still playing Last Light now, it's good as well, but something about 2033 makes me like it better.

I thought I actually could kill all of the Librarians.... well... yeah... didn't work out so good

Just started playing it and I get no stuttering. Playing on a AMD 7950, Cats 13.11 beta 9.5. Game is installed on a SSD.
