Playing like a girl is goal for boys

Josh and Jarrod Davis aren't trying to cause any trouble. As the first boys in Anne Arundel County, Md., to play high school field hockey ? traditionally an all-girl sport in this country ? they just want to have fun. "We really enjoy the game," Josh said.

I thought this was an interesting story. Seems some folks think equality is not a 2 way street though.

Very interesting.
Naysayers claiming that males will injure female players are mistaken. Physical contact is prohibited, and so is lofting the ball and high sticking. What are they worried about?

One problem is that the average boy is physically superior to the average girl. Allowing a girl to play on a boys team poses no risk as, presumably, the girl is capable of participation.

I suppose they could place some sort of limit, allowing only "girly boys" to play on girl's sports. 😉

edit:

Not allowing physical contact is one thing. But the fact remains that the average boy is still typically stronger and faster than the average girl. It'll change the game, and perhaps as more boys become interested in it, may elbow out girls that would have otherwise been able to play.

That's like someone trying to compete in Special Olympics with those kids. Some people think equality is a two way street.

Edit: Nevermind, I'm all for co-ed wrestling.

Wow, co-ed wrestling at your school. Wow!

Edit: picturing all the nerds lining up to join wrestling so they can get their only chance to touch a girl.

guys play field hockey in europe - shouldnt be diff here. i think that title (of the article) is kinda messed up.

Why? As the article points out the boys are by no stretch the best players on the team and admit they have a lot to learn from the girls.

Yes they do. Last year in fact a woman attempted an extra point for a Division I football team to be the first woman ever to play in an actual Division I football game.

edit: Oh, and I forgot, she missed the extra point.

Forget hitting, guys have more stamina, can run faster and hit harder than girls. If enough actual male athletes went out for that field hockey team there wouldn't be a girl starting.

Obviously with just two people it wont factor in much (these two just sound like regular guys who want to have fun, and if so more power to them, field hockey was fun when we played it in gym in high school), but if a bunch of guys suddenly want to play they should really create a seperate team, otherwise it would kill it for the girls who want to play.

If there was sufficient demand, I'm sure they would create a boys team.
