Playing FPS games from the couch

Just bought a 42'' LCD tv, and have been playing some PC games from the comfort of my sofa. So far, I've only played games that use the XBox controller, but I'm ready to start playing TF2 again. Having the keyboard on my lap is just not cutting it, nor is using the mouse on the sofa cushion.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a small table or stand that is wide enough for both mouse and keyboard?

I've got wireless, so that's not an issue. The tv sits kind of high, however, to view it from the floor.

Get a shelf, and prop it up to the proper hight on both sides of you.

For the keyboard, use a Nostromo N52 instead; it rests comfortably on your belly (I'm not at all fat fwiw.)v Mouse?? Let me know when you figure that out :D

I'm sitting on a couch as I type this :D

I have the keyboard on my lap, but have a small bone shaped pillow under my left wrist, to give me a natural hand position. For my mouse, I just have a nylon-ish mousepad with built in memory foam wrist support. The rough surface helps keep the mouse from sliding off the couch. It's a lot more comfortable than sitting in a chair.

edit: you should come play AT TF2 with us Friday.

When I was trying out the LCD TV at my other house I just used a little coffee table. It was a bit uncomfortable for long periods, but I could always switch it to TV and relax on the couch.

When i tried that what I did was:
Couch had wooden armrests that were perfect for mouse. Very comfortable. Keyboard, however, sat on my lap, wasn't great but good enough.

Maybe you can add some rigid surface to a couch armrest/cushion?

I have a Logitech G7 that works great on the arm of my recliner. COD4 looks pretty nice on a 65" :p

I use a lap-board. I kinda just rest the keyboard in a position of comfort on my lap at an angle and then I place the lap board on my right perpendicular to the couch and place my mouse upon that, works just fine.

The walgreens (drug store) locally has this item almost exactly

Laptop Cart

For under 40$. Id have one but I don't think my couch has room under it for the stand.

Thanks for the suggestions.

I found an oversized wooden tv dinner table at Bed Bath and Beyond for 12 bucks! Has room for mouse, keyboard, and drink...pretty sweet deal.

Hey, does anyone know if there's an alternative to using a wireless mouse and keyboard combo? Like for instance, does some kind of hub exist to where I could plug my wired crap into it and transmit the data to a wireless basestation? The reason I ask is that I pretty much hate using wireless logitech mouse and keyboard combos.

EDIT:

Also, is bluetooth a good solution in terms of signal reliability?

I just run a wired USB hub to the couch from my computer. A single wire isn't hard to cover up or hide.
