I have an ATI AGP video card with an ATI Theater DVD hardware decoder chip. After moving it to an Windows XP computer, Windows Media Player complains I don't have a compatible decoder.

I installed ATIs driver instead of using Windows XP built-in, but still not having any luck.

Does anyone know how to make it work?

Windows XP cannot play DVDs right out of the box. You need to install a DVD viewing application, which then may or may not use your hardware assistance.

Try the free VLC Media Player if you want to play DVD's. Might not use your hardware decoder, though.

If you have a copy of Nero, Nero Showtime will enable DVD viewing on Windows Media Player. Of course, the same goes for PowerDVD, WinDVD, and any other commercial DVD-viewing program.
