Playing camcorder on portable DVD

I have a Sony TRV38 miniDV camcorder which has a single A/V slot. I have no problem playing video from the camera onto a TV with the separate red, yellow, and white inputs using the adapter which came with the camcorder.

We received a portable DVD player for Christmas which only has one 3.5mm A/V in slot. I purchased an adapter to connect with the camcorder adapter, but I get no picture. The audio is fine, put the video doesn't come up at all.

Would I need to have a portable DVD player with the separate inputs rather than the single input in order to see the video?

Thanks

The plug that goes into the camera is a 4 conductor plug. Look at the end. It has Video, Audio Left, Audio right, and ground.

You must has gotten a 3 conductor cable... so only audio left and right is coming through.

You need a cable with the 4 conductor 3.5mm plug on each end.

This might help:
