Playing AVIs on Xbox 360 doesn't seem to work now...

I'm a big fan of Top Gear but I live in America. So I torrent the videos. Well since the new season started, it seems like I can't watch them on 360.

Basically it plays for 7 minutes or so, then goes to a black screen and all you hear is audio. Anyone have any ideas how to fix this???

Is Microsoft deliberately doing this?

I haven't had any problems. It might be how they are encoded. Get Vdub and reencode them to ffdshow (xvid). It should only take a couple minutes for each episode.

i have xvid top gears, and the xbox only shows them as being 14 minutes long, despite them being complete. 20-40 minute shows work fine, though.

not sure what the deal is. it's definately not a problem with all avi's.

I have had the same problem with this season's shows. It plays for 15 minutes or so, then I lose video. When I FFWD or RWD, it appears the entire file is only about 15 minutes long. I do NOT have this problem with all AVIs, and as it happens when I play older episodes of TG they work fine. I am using a Mac with Connect360, and had attributed the problem to my computer - in a way I'm glad to hear that isn't the issue.

i can confirm these files work fine in both vlc and wmp on two machines. there must be something picky about certain that the xbox just doesn't like.

Try transcoding them with codecs that you know would work on the Xbox 360.
