So I found some examples of digital restoring online and I thought they were kind of cool, so I tried my hand at a little photo coloring myself. I took some black and white photo of Albert Einstein I found on the internet and threw some stuff together. Obviously I didn't really pay attention to get the colors perfect and my selecting was a bit lazy but I think I did alright for my first time. I did his face, then his sweater, then tried the hands but gave up on those. I didn't touch the background.

What do you guys think

Very cool!

Can you provide a link or two to the tutorials that you used?

I didn't use any tutorials, just used the selection tools, some layers, and the handy Adjustment->Color Balance tool.

Yeah, being both an artist and a photographer I went for more of an overprocessed-studio-photograph look instead of a what-would've-probably-looked-more-realistic snapshot look.

For some reason, the skin tone you gave Einstein (especially looking at the knuckles) reminded me of this guy :p

That is really good, seems darker than usual but the colors are really bright. Nice first job.

I'd love to know what you did. :) I'd like to try and apply such processing on some shots I have taken.

BTW, is 'Team Canon' something you created here on AT? Another website? Can I join? I shoot a 30D as my primary and a 300D as my secondary with a slug of lenses. :D

Nice job.
Command (or ctrl)+U FTW.
The selections must've been a PITA if you used PS's selection tools.
There are some awesome third-party plug-in selection tools that work wonders, notably Vertus FluidMask.
