Playing 720p games on a 20" HDTV

I was considering getting an xbox 360 to play on my 20" HDTV, and I was wondering if the wow-factor is still present at 720p resolution on just a 20" screen.

Can anyone share their insights and experiences with this?

Thanks!

It'll probably look better than it would on my 19" non-HD TV.

I'm a bit torn as to whether I should buy a new TV before I buy a 360. Right now I'm leaning towards getting a 37" HDTV and waiting until after the holiday's for a 360.

Yes, it's pretty good. My friend has a 2nd 360 on a 20" LCD HD, in fact it looks really good.

mugs nailed it, it will depend on how far away from the TV you sit.

Do you game on your computer at all? Assuming you have a 16x9 monitor, try running a game at 720x480 vs. 1280x720. If you sit close enough it will make a huge difference.

I wouldn't consider buying an HDTV right now. We're 2 months from Black Friday, you can make it.

I played on a 20" LCD monitor over a VGA connection before I bought my HDTV...and it was great. Sure getting the large HDTV was nice...but I had a TON of fun on my 20" monitor. Played all the way through Call of Duty 2,FN3, and GRAW on it. Even started Gears of War before upgrading. Sure I couldn't sit across the room, but it was plenty fun.

You really can't go wrong. The 360 looks good on SDTV...it just looks amazing on HDTV.

would you want to run your pc at 640x480 instead just because your monitor isn't ginourmous?
of course it'll look good on any hdtv. its just a matter of how far away you can sit. even dvd looks better than vhs on a 20". not to say its going to be wow either way.

If you want an HDTV and a Xbox I'd go take advantage of either Circuity City or Best Buy (whoever has a better deal right now) for 2 or 3 year no interest financing. Typically when you use an offer like that anything you buy that day goes on that interest deal. so get the TV and Xbox now and just take the money you'd have used and stick it in an ING account for a few years.

I used to play my XBOX 360 on a 19" LCD before I got my HDTV and the worst part was how close you have to sit to it. It was fine when I switched between my main PC monitor and my XBOX 360 (because I'd stay in the same seat, so I'd be sitting close), but its own monitor made me want to sit further away on my bed.
