"Players only love you when they're playing"

if i remember correctly, the song was about... her telling him that it is a big cruel world and no one would care for him like she would. that the rest of the world would try to hurt, take advantage of him andnot care. that no one would be honest to him like she would ... cause she was the only one who truly loved him.

players only love you when they're playing... is kinda like... ppl putting on their best face when they want something. that is not how they truly are. they are playing him to get what they want... cause they are playing. and will drop him when they are done playing the game,.

WAY too much to read into a splif toking song.

Or it could mean exactly what it says:

Players only love you when they're playin'

Maybe she is talking about how HE (Mick Fleetwood maybe...they were an item) only loved her when he was playing (in the band) and that when he WASN'T playing, he was in a bit of a 'funk' and was probably a mean guy (which he was).

Just my opinion though.....

IE: When he was playing, he had a sense of purpose and felt good about himself (and others). When he wasn't playing, he was self absorbed and mean towards others (or just not nice). Happens a lot with perfectionists and workaholics (especially musicians)

Interesting interpretation. I had read "players" as per the contemporary definition, meaning men who manipulate the emotions of women.
