Played - Episode 46

After a few weeks? break and some technical difficulties, Played is back with a particularly bizarre episode. This week, the crew discusses Diablo III corpse runs, Wizard: The Movie: A Diablo III Tale, and the upcoming StarCraft II trilogy. Plus, we take a trip down memory lane with Prototype and the most pretentious developer video diary ever recorded.

Finally, Liz has been playing Rock Band 2 and Spore, Chris is immersed in World of Goo, and Mark is playing through Dead Space and De Blob.

It's a fun, wacky episode--enjoy folks. 🙂

I never had to corpse run when I played D3... it was kinda nice 😛. But looking at the description for this episode, you'd think it'd be in the PC Gaming section 😉.

De blob, Dead Space, Prototype, World of Goo, Rock Band 2 and Silent Hill: homecoming (not mentioned in the description but does come up) are all console games so really it could go either way. I choose the console forum because I frequent it more than the PC forum and I'd rather not cross post it in both.

I liked the corpse runs because it added an extra challenge to the game. Sure, sometimes it was impossible to get it back but, in a group they should be able to pull them away from your corpse long enough to pick it back up.

I liked it because it was a penalty for failing. Games today throw soft balls at gamers and it makes them easier than they should be. I remember in Fallout 1 you can lose half your perception for the rest of the game by getting lippy with a guy. I hope you like punching people because you can't shoot anyone if you can see very well. 11 years later people would be screaming from the roof tops at how unfair that is and now their character isn't perfect and omnipotent. I thought it was awesome because it had a real consequence to something I did.

If I die in Diablo, I want to not have my hand held and let me fight to get my gear back. I want to be able to make a character how I see fit. Not how they want it to work. If I wanted that I would play WoW because that's what this looks like it's becoming.
