"In this week?s episode of Played, the crew discusses the resignation of longtime Sony executive Phil Harrison, the death of HD DVD in the intense nerd-fought battle of high-def video formats, and the potential of Nintendo?s upcoming WiiWare download service and reports of a paid online gaming service from Nintendo.

Following up on his report in the last podcast, Chris speaks a bit on Masahiro Sakura?s Super Smash Bros. Brawl address at GDC and how it relates to differences between Japanese and Western game development. Finally, Liz is looking forward to Infinite Interactive?s Puzzle Quest followup Galactrix, and Mark has been playing Lost Odyssey and Frontlines. Plus, there is jazz."

As always, this is 100% free of charge with no ads. :) We're also going to be shifting over to our new forums pretty soon here and would appreciate it if (the curious/helpful) types could register and post on there. I'm working out the permissions, bugs and kinks as this is new software for me.

New forums: http://www.playedpodcast.com/discussion

Enjoy fellas,

I'm sick of hearing about the HD vs BluRay fight. What irritates me the most is that Sony likes making proprietary formats for things and charging through the nose. They have only won recently because of their increased security.... I just hope the format and players become cheap quickly rather than making us wait another 2-3 years before we can start to build a decent collection without paying twice what DVD costs....

Maybe the HD-DVD manufacturers can drop the price on their players and keep pushing for more marketshare in the format...only a few of the major companies have officially bailed. It would be nice to see the competition continue just for the sake of us consumers.

You're sick of hearing the fight, yet are continuing the discussion?

You won't be hearing about it much any more. :)

Heh. I think we're going to be hearing nothing but stories on how Blu-Ray won out over HD DVD for the next year.

Allow me to be more specific (I figured it was implied since this is the podcast thread). We're not going to be chatting about it much any more.

:D I was speaking about the media/press in general. Not your podcast specifically.

Yup yup. When Time and the mainstream press start talking about it, it's going to be fun.
